Hive Ecosystem Education Partner HDF Proposal

Proposal overview

The Problem’s

There is an awareness of blockchain, cryptocurrency, and web3 but people don’t know what to do with it and don’t know how to use it.

Many people that buy into cryptocurrency do not know too much about blockchain and web3 and then don’t know where to go to learn more.

Fuelled by open-source development allowing for deployment of products in a fraction of time, the rate of innovation in the web3 and blockchain space continues to accelerate.

Innovation has been so fast, yet quality training required to produce anything bar developers and cryptocurrency trader is not easily accessible and available. Education and training are key to adoption.

Those with the skills are being snapped up by Fintech, and others wanting to get in on the industry. This is leading to a shortage of skilled resources that should feed the adoption cycle as we move from early adopters to the early majority.

This skill shortage has left development teams with no business teams putting strain on the demand for partnerships and slowing down ecosystem growth.

The current user base and those with Web3 literate skills are spread too thin and need to grow rapidly to sustain the growth of development.

Adoption can’t come fast enough.

The Solution

Build a community of educated talented web3 professionals and advocates. Through education and network growth, we will accelerate the rate of adoption in line with the speed of innovation by equipping people with the skills needed to become the business and marketing innovators and entrepreneurs, that will take Web3 to mass adoption.

Our Mission

It is our mission to accelerate the adoption of Web3, Blockchain, and Cryptocurrency Technology.

How Hive will benefit

The Expert track has core content, delivered as pre-recorded videos, articles, and curated content. This content is self-study and will remain rather consistent for each block of students.
It is from the Live sessions that Hive will benefit most. Each week of the track we hold two live classes, and these will be case studies, demonstrations, and talks on the weekly topic, showcasing the Hive Ecosystem. This way not only will Hive as a blockchain be showcased but also Dapps and other services built on top of Hive.

The live classes will be recorded and made available for students in all subsequent blocks. With a reach of 10,000 in year one alone.

All marketing around the sponsored block will include Hive branding.

Hive will be listed as a partner on our website, and certificates of completion will be co-branded with the Hive logo.

ABlockofCrypto is more than just an Expert track, but also a community. Our ethos is not only about learning, but also networking and community. We believe community is key and we believe we can always learn from our peers. We will also share Hive-related content, quizzes, and tasks within the community. Our community is open to more than just our students, which will help gain more exposure and hopefully accelerate the growth of the user based on Hive.

Further to this, we will also have press releases published to announce the partnership.

During the term of the partnership Hive and the Hive Ecosystem will also be featured in other educational events such as webinars focusing on introducing traditional businesses to web3 and other free outreach events we run.

Where we are now

In early December we sent out a notification to a small contacts list with a signup page for the first block of students to begin on Feb 22. Within 1 day 246 people had registered their interest. We now have 350 learners waiting to access this course. With current staffing levels, we can only accommodate a max of 200 Students per block.

In terms of course production, the core (self-study) material is almost complete.

Our website is also almost ready, we are just waiting for our custom domain to be moved and some content to be added to our blog. We will then open our community and start revving up our efforts to excite students for the beginning of the first block.

We plan on educating 10,000 students within the next 12 months. In order to do this, we will have to hire further educators and facilitators so we can reach all time zones.

Our first block of students will have 200 learners with 4 Instructors/Facilitators. With the additional staff, we will increase the block size without impacting the quality or experience of learning with us. We hope to have multiple blocks running at a time.

Our first Block of Students will begin the orientation session on the 1st of February.

What help do we need?

It would be fantastic to get some Hive experts and developers of Dapps and services to work with us on the weekly live classes. These need to be tailored in advance. There are plenty of Dapps and services on the Hive ecosystem and we will be reaching out on proposal approval to start work on the live class outlines.

Proposal ask

In order to provide this education free for learners, we request $240,000 over 9 weeks ($1200 per student) (4000 HBD per day for 60 Days)

$1200 per student for a 9-week course, 4 instructors/facilitators. Blended learning with live classes and assignments that require review. Students will get individual attention from the student outreach team and instructors. This is an experience, not just a course.

If this proposal is not funded, we will be going ahead with our first block of students as planned anyway and will seek partnerships with other Blockchains or DApps.

If this proposal is partially funded, we will be going ahead with our first block of students as planned anyway and may seek partnerships with other blockchains or DApps

A message from the founder

Hi, my name is Paula and I thought it only right to give you some personal background as a partnership is an investment and most often, investments are about the people behind them.

The greatest gift I was given by my parents was the gift of Education. Born and raised in Ireland, I was lucky enough to go to college and study Applied Science. To do this, my parents had to sacrifice a lot as they needed to pay not only my college fee but also my accommodation and living expenses away from home. It must have been an awful kick in the face for them at first when I could not get a job in my field of study.

But having the ability to learn, and the enjoyment of college made me like education, and I would now consider myself a lifelong learner.

After my initial bout of education, I did not let the job situation get me down. It was not long before I switched fields and by profession and I have been a CPA accountant for many years.
In 2007 on the birth of my first child, I gave up my well-paid desk job to create a suite of e-learning courses on CD-ROM and start a home-based business on web2. These courses were aimed at accountants and professionals wishing to upskill in Microsoft Excel and Spreadsheets. E-learning was not even a thing. I launched The Excel Club and have been a content creator and educator ever since.

In 2010 Udemy launched, killing the CD ROM market for education, making it impossible to compete with content delivered online. As Udemy was growing so fast I jumped on board and happily earned income from my online courses. However, in 2016 Udemy changed its policy. Instructor revenues got slashed and as instructors, we had no option but to comply or leave and try and complete alone.

In search of a fairer way for content creators in 2016, I turned to blockchain and have been an advocate for Web3 and the creator economy ever since. In 2018, pioneering the way for content creators, I tokenized my website and blog, offering Learn and Earn Activities for students using Hive.

In 2020 when the world went into lockdown, I gathered the world’s greatest Excel Instructors and award winners, and we released a course raising $15K for charity. In 2020 and 2021 I won the Microsoft MVP award for my continued community involvement.

Now I am giving up my Career in Excel as I have a new mission.

Many of you here on Hive know me from being active in the community some time ago. I ran the Power Up League and also co-ran the Steem Community Witness Server on Steem with @abh12345. Although I have not been active on Hive, I still make referrals and promote the blockchain.

I voted and shared this post for visibility, but in its current state I'm not convinced its good value for Hive.. I'm a relatively small vote though, I'll watch discussions and see what the community thinks :)

I'm not convinced its good value for Hive

That depends on where Hive is and where it sees itself. If Hive is still in a stage of 'building matters first', then I would agree. But I would encourage Hive to engage with an education partner that will help onboard more devs if that is the case.

However, if Hive is ready to take on the big chains and the big ecosystems then it needs to behave like one. Many chains are now funding projects for good to have a positive social impact while attracting new talent to the ecosystem. Many are now moving towards funding or have funded educational programs. I have come to Hive because it was the chain that onboarded me and I think it's ready to swim with the big boys.

Thanks for the share and the feedback @ausbitbank and for taking the time to read it all 😀

Hive should start opening up for other crypto enthusiast, not just users who tend to blog but those "outsiders" who can contribute and enrich the blockchain to hasten development not only for Hive but for the entire #blockchainosphere.

100%. I couldn't agree more.

I'm curious. The idea sounds interesting.

For those kinds of numbers through the proposal, I would definitely need to know more and so I hope to see that in the near future.

Voted your proposal. I hope this project will be funded. Thank you for your efforts.

thank you for your support @guruvaj

The Solution
Build a community of educated talented web3 professionals and advocates.

Something like what we have now. Were those few who have the skills makes all the rules?

Were those few who have the skills makes all the rules?

Time to open up, share the skills, and foster innovators, entrepreneurs, professionals.

This, exactly what we need also to avoid scam. A scenario like Some haven't any idea about it but they still buying a fake token.

they will learn that and more

Done!
And Reblogged.

hi @papilloncharity, thank you for your support :-)

Always my friend and besides our charity is on your auto vote. Thank you.

If this proposal is not funded, we will be going ahead with our first block of students as planned anyway and will seek partnerships with other Blockchains or DApps.

Which blockchains or DApps do you have in mind?

Are you actively seeking partnerships currently, with Hive simply being one on the list?

I made a proposal to Hive because it was my onboard to this crazy world and there are nostalgic connections. We are looking at the larger blockchains with rather developed ecosystems and liquidity but came here because of my roots.

I understand that part and can even relate. I'm not asking why Hive.

Could you take another stab at answering those questions, while I consider your offer.

I take these business matters seriously. I'm looking at an ask for funding here, all while you're saying there's funding available elsewhere.

On top of those questions I'm also wondering: Do you have roots and a reputation you can leverage elsewhere? If so, what I'm seeing here is an opportunity to bring costs down by generating multiple revenue streams from a number of sources.

Not fully convinced this needs to be so expensive, based on what I'm seeing here. Concerned Hive flips the bill while 'competition' for lack of a better term sees the benefits, along with Hive, in theory. There's also nothing stopping you from dipping into this pile of money, and another pile of money, somewhere else, but I don't know where that somewhere is, or how hard it would be to get funding. So I'm asking.

In theory, based on what I'm seeing here, Hive benefits, even if it doesn't pay.

I want to help you, but I want to know why I'm helping, and if it's necessary.

We will be applying to other blockchains. We have a proposal for Hive and will have some different, some similar, and some of the same proposal for others. We want to become the Education Partner to Blockchain ecosystems as Chainlink is the go-to Oracle.

Do I have a reputation to leverage elsewhere? I have many great connections that I will be leveraging, not only in the blockchain space but also in the wider education space (as we will be looking for accreditation) and in business in general (as we want to bring new people to the space). However, most of our partnerships will be from open partnership proposals such as this one, not knowing if our connections will be enough. I don't think it will be easy and I will need to work hard at it. Bias obviously but I think this model will work and will keep pushing.

I think between the lines, you might be really asking why am I asking for almost 1/4 of a mil? So let's talk business then.

We are a for-profit entity, based in Ireland. We have overheads and we have staff. The cost of the course creation has already been absorbed by us and is very much back-ended. As a for-profit entity, we provide a service for a fee. In effect the service to Hive is marketing. Hive gets to be involved in a for good social project, making education on Web3, Blockchain, and Digital assets accessible for all.

By establishing a Partnership, we can make this a viable business and as a business, we want to grow. Partnership revenue will be classified as a contribution to profits. Much of our spend will be on Marketing, R&D (digital certificates and DId's initially) & staffing.

Will Hive benefit even if it doesn't pay? Maybe a little because there are some projects here I would like to help, but not nearly to the extent it would.

Let me share a link with you. This is a similar company to us, way more established. But with a different focus and a completely different teaching style. These are one of the Developer Education Partners of bigger ecosystems, check out their partners. We are different in that we are not skilling developers.
https://www.encode.club/

There is another one, which we are in discussions with so I can't share right now and the aim of the partnership with them is co support students. Learners and community members from our platform that want to move into dev will have a route to take and those on their platform that don't really wanna be devs will have a route to take with us. These will be vetting our content before any agreements are made.

I'm excited and I would love Hive to be my first Partner. But as a business, I am not dependent on it, I know many on Hive will just hate this model and some will like it. I just have to hope enough will like it somewhere and then hopefully it will snowball.

Apologies for the delay. I've been busy. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I'm listening. Studying, here and elsewhere.

There's more but after some thought, I'm going to leave it there, since potentially swaying opinions in either direction is not something I'm interested in doing. This isn't an easy call to make.

I'd like to see others chime in as there's a lot of time between now and the deadline. I'll keep my eye on things as I sit on the fence.

It would be one thing if you were asking for $240k after 10,000 learners had successfully completed this course, created a Hive account, and earned some kind of badge for competition viewable on their profile.

How do you define a “reach of 10,000?”

You have stated you would like some on Hive to help. However, your orientation starts in over just 2 weeks. This seems like something that should have been secured ahead of asking for funding and the course about to start.

While I believe in free education and see it as the future. There is a big difference once something is free for someone to click on a signup button and those being able to commit to something for 9 weeks.

I’ve taken many free online offerings by MIT and others. There is a massive difference I’ve noticed between those who sign up for something free and the amount that makes it to the end. Before even taking into account those that will go out and do something with the information they gained.

In your own experience. What percentage of those that sign up for a free course do you expect to attend day one? How many would be expected to finish the course?

I feel at $1,200 per person for the pilot is quite a tough pill to swallow for many when it comes to the DHF. As far as the $240,000 what is the breakdown in terms of how this money is being allocated? Is this just for the staffing for 9 weeks? Is there a % of it that is going towards the cost of creating core content?

If this does not get fully funded what is the future of this program and the free education elements?

Hi @enjar and thank you for your feedback and questions.

$1200 per learner is not unreasonable for a course of such caliber especially when it requires 200 students to get the personal support they need to complete it and feel confident in their journey.

You are spot on about people not completing courses and it's one of the things we have put a lot of effort into. I'm teaching online for 14 years. I know only too well how poor the completion rate can be for e-learning. But this is not an e-learning course. Students will be guided via live classes, peer groups, and the student outreach team. Retention is one of the things we have spent a lot of time on and have received outside consulting on. Part of this includes the quality of the student, and so we won't be doing a mass marketing campaign advertising a free course. Instead, we are targeting innovators, entrepreneurs & professionals.

In regards to the breakdown of $240K
We are a for-profit entity, based in Ireland. We have overheads and we have staff. The cost of the course creation has already been absorbed by us and is very much back-ended. As a for-profit entity, we provide a service for a fee. In effect the service to Hive is marketing. Hive gets to be involved in a for good social project, bring education on Web3, Blockchain, and Digital assets.
By establishing a Partnership, we can make this a viable business and as a business, we want to grow. Partnership revenue will be classified as a contribution to profits. Much of our spend will be on

  1. Marketing
  2. R&D (digital certificates and DId's initially)
  3. Staffing

If this project is not funded we are going ahead anyway, it will build our reputation. I would love to see us becoming the go-to education partner for every blockchain like Chainlink is the go-to oracle.

Excelente post. muy bien explayado, gracias por compartir, te dejo mi voto y te sigo, saludos.

I voted. I think this is a great proposal. It helps Hive by training and preparing Devs. It also increases awareness of the platform so we can drive wider adoption.
