This morning, I put on my favorite dress and let the music of the past fill my senses. Life lately has been a dynamic ride of beautiful and painful feelings, calling me out of the cave of familiarity and stability. Revelations and insights in all forms are flowing through me in palpable ways. Music and dance helps me be the space for all of it, with every baby step forward I take.
I'm so grateful for moments like this, when I connect with my body and heart, and let go of what's unnecessary for me to hold onto. It reminds me of a quote I used to tell myself every morning: "I wonder how much of what weighs me down is not mine to carry."
Growing up, magical things went down between me, my CD player, and my mom's ABBA albums and Billboard Top Hits from the 70s-80s. I got in the habit of sneaking on my dad's computer every time he wasn't home, constantly in the game of burning music CDs with new songs I downloaded from Limewire, a peer to peer file sharing software that was eventually shut down for copyright infringement issues. Limewire was an important part of my childhood, despite the computer viruses. It looks like they rebranded earlier this year as a marketplace for NFTs!
May we all find authentic and healing ways to express our inner lives.
