Today is the mensiversary from my arrival on Steemit.
I thought about writing this post to help all new users. I won't use resources and links, but this will be tips and tricks and mostly my real experience in this month.
Pills of...
For those who are interested to become true masters and magicians of the website, you can read projects really well made, like the one of my dear friend @ethandsmith that you can read here.
Let's start with the 3 questions that new users ask themselves when they see the site.
Why Steemit, when there are more famous and used alternatives?
- Steemit makes people be themselves in a friendly environment. Users near an far can interact, can discover new curiosities an recover abbandoned passions. Spam isn't well tolerated here and the reward system improve the quality of contents
Nobody gives anything for free, this must a pyramidal scheme or Ponzi. How do you get money?
- You don't need to deeply understand the blockchain technology behind Steemit, which is really difficult and probably not known to the majority of users Steemit is a platform to share contents, based on coins named Steem, used to reward the quality of your production. Without technicalities or complete explanations, which you can find in the link above, you can think of Steemit as a system where a part of the gaining is shared back with the creators of the contents themselves.
Free money? YEAAAAAAA
- Wait. It's easy, but not that easy. In a month I learned that you get rewarded for the intuition, for the editing, for the contents, for the WORK behind a post.
You won't be able to tell worthless story or to copypasta stuff to earn 100SBD in rewards, this is not that place to do it.
What now so? Now I'll tell you how I jumped from a reputation of 25 to one of 50 in a month, being featured on various contests as well as Dtube, and, in general, getting appreciation from the Steemit community!
I wish you the best and I hope you can do even better of what I did
Read
VESTS, Whale, SBD, Steem, Power up, Flag. Yeah, when you see all those terms it's hard to comprehend what's really going on. On my first week I didn't have a clue of what I was doing, so I started reading a lot!
Before posting my first article at the end of February, I used at least two hours each evening to read the most material as possible. I used to read trending post, new posts and a lot of guides.
Those two weeks of training before writing my first posts have been really important to understand Markdown, the language of post making on steemit.
Try it
It might demoralize you to see people that writes professionally, maybe with years of previous blogging as experience. I never had a blog nor a sharing platform like YouTube, so I just jumped in. Talk about who you are, about your passion. Do not be the niche person, talk about various topics.
Don't be racist or rude, and mostly do not write contents that might get the reader upset.
Write, write and... WRITE!
Do NOT give up!
You will see from the start that posts that you really loved won't be much appreciated, while posts that you cared less about will be. This happens because you are not the judge of your contents, but the entire community of Steemit is. What fits you isn't meant to strictly fit everyone else, so do not give up if you don't get stellar results with your posts.
We can always improve, we can learn more through the expertise of senior users as well as being autocritical towards ourselves.
THE GOLDEN RULE OF STEEMIT: THE INTERACTION
This is the only real suggestion I want you to always bring with you. Do NOT think about what you do or have to do, but read and interact with others in the most authentic way.
Don't just upvote randomly or spam your link under others posts to get noticed. It doesn't work like that.
Do you like photography? Why not starting see other people best shots and comment them?
Do you like painting? There are amazing works in the site.
The only way to have a genuine follow is to be there for others and to support other members
Sociality is the carrier stone of this amazing project called Steemit!
I would love to thank @ethandsmith, @mitneb, @shadowspub, @nicola71, @nawamy and the communities of @thesteemengine e di @steempostitalia. Without you I wouldn't have learnt what I did in such a small amount of time, nor achieved what I did.
I'd love if my shared experienced will help the most number of users here, so if you have found this post useful, please upvote, share and/or comment.
You can write me for anything, I always interact (sooner or later!)
If you want to learn something more about myself, you can help me seeing this Timelapse of a LEGO, a big project I am looking forward to continue.
Enjoy your adventure here!
Luca
Ps The real question everybody ask is if it's Steemer or Steemian
Congratulations on your monthiversary! It is great to see you create so many meaningful engagements within separate communities - leading by example! I would have to agree with not giving up and the golden rule ;) You are already reputation 49 in a month!! That's amazing progress. It took me two months to achieve the same, and I've been told I've had a great start :P
Thanks so much @poetrybyjeremy for your comment, I really appreciate that!
It has been a burst!
Have a nice day,
✌️
You are doing better than I was in the first month.
Yea, trying different topics at the beginning can help find out how one can move on and what the way ahead may look like. But once the path is shaped, perhaps, it is time to get niche. :-)
Hey @prch, thanks for stopping by!
My areas of interest are REAAAALLY various, that's why I suggested to space between them if you have more than one focus.
My personal Niche is Magic the Gathering and LEGO!
Thanks for your comment, I always appreciate them.
Luca ✌️
Looking forward to some more wonderful posts from you :-)
Enjoy the weekend.
