Three years and counting

My 3 Year Block Chain Birthday

In a few hours it will be three years since I joined and became active on the block chain. At the time there was only Steem. I have completed my power down on Steem and moved all my funds over to Hive.

I felt that Steem had lost its way and direction, and was becoming more of a mining platform than a social platform, as a new not fully informed person about crypto, this did not fit well with why I joined Steem.

On Hive there has been much talk about what Hive is, about what the Hive Community is, and about where Hive is going. I joined Steem Block Chain, not for the crypto experience, I joined Steem because my wife told me there was a lot of stories and books and things to read. There was.

I came to the block chain side of Social Media for the content. I like to read. The free offerings from Amazon for Kindle were becoming fewer and fewer, and the cost of buying was ever increasing. So when my wife told me there was a lot to read on Steem I joined.

I joined the block chain as a consumer, I am still primarily a consumer. Hive has offered up that opportunity again. A place to consume content, a place that has things I like to see, read and comment on.

There are a lot of people that see consumerism as a bad thing, I am not one of those. I fully admit I like to consume stuff. I like having options for dining out, even though they are pretty limited where I live. I used to like to go shopping even if I did not buy anything. Having a choice of different place to go and shop and look at things I enjoyed.

photo information below toward the end of post

Big box stores came to our small town, mom and pop stores started to close, they could not compete with the in-rush of conglomerate stores. People were happy at first, they thought they would get better prices, more choice, more product, after all these were big stores. It happened for a little while, but then the choices were removed, the product spread became less and less, and some small niche stores, (mom and pop places) started to return.

Steem was becoming a big box store, removing peoples options, taking away choice, and telling people what they needed. (my view). A few of the larger accounts saw this, took action, and gave us Hive. The Niche community idea has come to full fruition. People once again have options.

Many on Hive keep talking about on boarding, of quality content and content providers being needed. Many talk about a lack of content on Hive. I find no lack of content on Hive. What seems to be lacking the most on Hive are people like myself, those that like to consume.

Vote trails, curation trails, they are not going to tell you what people really like, what they are reading, what they are enjoying what they are looking at. I am only one person, but I have met several people that see Hive as a Social Site. people that like to consume, but also people that like to be social. Look at the social interaction contest post. Not the photo challenge, or color challenge or free write post, take a good hard look at some of the social interaction contest post.

Post that advertise an up-coming Discord interaction get a bit of feed back and social interaction outside of the actual Discord show. Once again a Social interaction, a place for people to meet, have fun and interact and consume the content of a content creator.

For me the block chain has always been about a place I can find things to read, look at and a place to interact with others. Perhaps it is time for those that want to onboard more users to start selling the Social side, the interaction side, the content availability side and try to bring in more consumers.

The Photo

The photo is of Captain Cook park from a few days ago, it is a stitched together 3 images, the stitching was a little off but it still gives a nice view of the Cook Inlet at a relatively low tide point. At High tide all those rocks would be under water.

Just a few of my rambling thoughts on my three years on the Block Chain.

Thank you I do appreciate it.

Hey, @bashadow.

Congratulations on the three year anniversary. You seem to be about five months or so ahead of me. There were times in the first several months I wished I'd started sooner. Then, I saw how the hardforks worked, saw the changes that got made, saw how some people would treat other people, and the fact that things were still in their nascent state, and I decided, maybe waiting a little wasn't such a bad idea. :)

Anyway, you make a good point about consuming. There are lots of things to read if you're not just wanting some particular thing, or if you're hoping for pulitzer every outing. That said, there is supposed to be a social side to HIVE, and it does exist, if people care to engage.

Here's to another three years and beyond.

Onward and upward.

Thank you, it has been fun, I still and never really at all understood how people could say there was nothing to really see or do on Hive/Steem. I guess I am fortunate in that I like a lot of variety.

It really does not take much to be social on Hive at all.

I've never been able to figure out why people would rather hang out on Discord. You read through the comments and it's all jumbled, hard to follow, all over the place, etc. At least within a post it's more focused in the comment threads even if it is off topic.

re: nothing on STEEM/HIVE

There are times where I struggle to find things I want to read, but that's not because there's not anything there. It's more of what I want to read at any given point. Not sure what people want that they're not getting, and I bet, some of them don't really know either. :)

You need to use peakd if you don't and do like me build out some list. List that fit the mood of what you are looking for. I have Authors list, a Photographer list, A Developers list (for when I want to know what is going on), A list for those my alt account delegates to, a list for contest. The list function is great for finding things from occasional content creators. It also helps to not have your primary, (every day) source of followers to cluttered to where you miss a post or two. Some time close to the end of the day I still have a few votes I want to give out, so I have a couple of curators on the curator list, and then there is the favorite User list and community list.

List can be your friend during those times when you want to look at fantasy photography/art but can not recall who it was or where you saw it. There are a boat load of communities now so list need to be made.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Happy Blockchainversary!🎉 I'm looking forward to what the next 3 years will bring!

I am also, I think there is a lot of potential on Hive and in Block Chain technology.

I think there is, too! There is no where else I would rather be!

Happy 3rd birthday ! Hope it's been full of happy surprises.

It has, I still find a lot of things to look at, read and like and enjoy.

Happy Hiversary! :-)

Hiversary

That post will be coming in about 8 months from now. Then I will be counting years on Hive, and ignoring steem beginnings, even though there was a lot I enjoyed there, it went in to much of a different direction.

I'm not going to ignore Steem beginnings, it's where we came from. There's a lot of good memories (SteemFest!), huge amount of experience gained during that time. Of course it's all about pre-takeover time. Those blocks are still here on Hive.
Anyway, good luck in the blocks to come :-)

Thank you I have learned a lot, and I did enjoy most of my time on steem.

Congrats!

Congrats on 3

It is my contention that we need many more consumer on Hive as well. We have so many folks making content (which is good), but we really need more people that enjoy, consume and support it.

Here's to many more years!

Thank you. I enjoy looking at, reading, and leaving the odd comment every now and then. I think it will take time, but look at the number of people that are active on places like YT, some monetized, some not. Or on twitter, reddit and FB. Some making money, but most just trying to have fun and hunting for things that give them that fun.

Happy Three Year Anniversary!!!! I raise my glass to you!!! May the next three go down easier! :)

Thank you it was a fun ride most of the way, I think I kind of like the turn we have made, more new and interesting roads to travel.

🎁 Hi @bashadow! You have received 0.1 HIVE tip from @dswigle!

Check out @dswigle blog here and follow if you like the content :)

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide.

Congrats on 3 years! This sure is an interesting community/place... I wish and hope that more people will discover it in time because I see it as so superior to other platforms like Facebook for example, yet the majority of the people are still there or on other sites like Instagram, Twitter, etc.

But, that being said. You mentioned the good reading that can be done here and I think this platform has great merit even if it never reaches a bigger audience. As long as there is a passionate enough group of diverse people to continue to add unique content and experiences, then... It's an amazing place regardless of the broader numbers. :)

It's been a pleasure meeting you and interacting with you on here over the years, all the best into the future to you bashadow! <3

Awesome little anniversary ramble! I agree with you on the count about social interaction, although I am myself guilty of probably doing the minimum. Hive is awesome, and if my life were not so freaking busy, I would invest more of myself into it. My day job comes first (no brainier there.. lol), and then the family, and then mowing haha. etc. I find time eventually. Just wish I had more of it!

Happy Hive Anniversary! And thank you for always being such a fantastic consumer/contributor! I appreciate all your hard work and notice everything you put into this platform 😁

P.S. I could totally see myself camping at the location of your photo. Beautiful and they even have my fire pit set up!!

It's a great view, but can be a bit windy on the windy days. I have been a little bit busy this week, but things are getting back to my normal, i like the slow life. I enjoy reading your post, and pepper and molly are pretty photogenic little pooches.
