Why are you on Steem? [5 SBI shares each for top 3 comments]
I recently wrote an article on my vision for Steem and what Steem means to me. Following up on that article, I thought it might be a good idea to have a sense of why we are here on Steem. What do we want to achieve? Is it the money? Or is it something else.

I have many reasons to be here. I first came because of my interest in cryptocurrency and soon discovered that STEEM has the best massive online community on the planet. Other places like FB, Twitter and even the Google+ interactions I've had are no comparison to the level of intellectual depths I've reached on STEEM. I think I've made more great friends on STEEM than i real life and STEEM is a tiny social media with less than 2 million accounts.
Along with time I came to realize the potential of the technology and the SMTs impressed me even more. EOS (and probably Tron) has better development budget and a lot more talent. But none of those DAPPs have an instant audience like STEEM https://steemapps.com shows the true power of the social network we have.
Since we are living in bit of a social media bubble here, outside world is kind of in dark regarding the immense potential of STEEM. Even $100 STEEM would mean a less than 30 billion USD marketcap which is quite realistic considering he amount of DAPPs and other developments we have regardless of not having smart contract capabilities. Just think about how far we have come without smart contracts. It's always wise to bet on hidden gems.
The DAPPs are great too. Currently I'm into dpoll, @dlike @steemhunt @steemmonsters and @drugwars for the most part and I've made some crypto on them. I think I've made more on games than I've spent on them and it's always fun to be on the bleeding edge of technological development. It's going to be fun bragging about being one of the first few players of a game like @steemmonsters in the future while the world was too focused on CryptoKitties which you can do nothing with compared to @steemmonsters with actual tournaments.
I'm on STEEM for so many different reasons like above and I've crawled my way from a the bottom to the dolphin status and I'm in the 1% in both account value and reputation which is something to be proud of IMHO.

I fully agree on your point saying that dApps created on Steem gets an instant pool of engaging audience. I don't see that in any other blockchain and that's Steem's competitive edge

So far, it WORKS! Steemit.com is my bank, retirement fund and social Dapp that I can share my crazy self in. I have involved myself in the first of its kind collectible Trading Card game (STEEMMONSTERS). Been here since a year after Steemit.coms initial launch. And learn a lot from some of the best here on the platform. What else could I want besides MORE haha?..Let us not b greedy now😅 Oh yeah, STEEMOJIS too!

I'm here for all the bullet reasons above but I'd like to say that what drew me to steam was the fact that trading was boring and really hard to understand. You can use steam and it makes it fun. I'm getting into the dapps and earning more steam to increase my stake is what makes me feel like I'm part of the crypto community. Participating in engaging in the community is so much better than sitting at your computer all day watching charts. I'm always recommending steam as a better way to do crypto to whoever will listen so in that way I feel like I'm an advocate as well

I actually came in because of the money and the fact that am wasting my time on facebook for nothing just consuming my data with no other result.

Why am I in steem?
At first, I was only focus in earning through sharing photos and writing good content. But for a year staying here I realised something that writing in steem is not all about it. I didn't earn much money in steem, actually I only have below 100 sp which is worst for 1 year old steemit. haha
But I didn't leave steem, I'm enjoying here that's what makes me stay. I meet a lot of friends all over the world. I love writing and it helps me to learn more in terms of writing well.
Then steem help's me to be aware what's happening all over the world and especially when we talk about blockchain.

🌐 Decentralization
I believe the future of the internet needs to be decentralized. Freedom of speech is something I hold extremely close to my heart, and I will always fight for it. Other than that, the security, reliability, modularity, and probably a bunch more things we haven't even scratched the surface of yet, that blockchain provides us is utterly fantastic.
🔮 Potential
No exaggeration: I truly get inspired by a dozen new ideas every day when I visit Steem. Seeing what others are doing, learning more about the underlying system, etc. I love the idea of what Steem is trying to do, and it makes me dream of a not-so-shitty future ;^)
💸 Money
haha, yes, I get that this can seem "greedy". Let me explain: At no point before now, has there existed a clean, simple, and easy method for getting funding doing the things you loved. You either had to embark on a complex journey to find some area that would value your work, or had to climb some bullshit ladder in order to be respected, or, most likely, you would just be hidden, unfunded, and unknown.
Steem changes all of that by providing an audience, and a simple funding platform, to you. I'm so happy that working on, talking about, interacting with, and developing my projects can now earn me money to keep working - talking - interacting - and developing them.
This is how it should be. This is how it should work. Money flowing to those who use it to create. It just makes sense.

We cannot avoid the money and financial reward aspect but I believe that to be the culmination after the potential is realized. Given the opportunity to broaden the ecosystem with Dapps for many different communities, value can be added with the relationships that are created with the Proof of Brain concept that still needs some work to ensure a better distribution and thus working of the protocol.
The unique "proof of brain" concept of Steem is certainly one of the reasons why I believe in the potential. Thanks for the comment!

I choose several answers coz there are several reasons why I'm here.
First of all for me it were my first steps into decentralized area. And as I see not only for me.
The next one reason that I can knew something new for me. As examples I can mention such accounts like @steempytutorials or @codingart from whom I can learn something intersting and useful in my life.
Also one more reason that I can improve my english as so as it's not my native language. And of course I met here many interesting people.
If talk about dapps like Pertiko or actifit fitness tracker they are help me stay active, and with Partiko it bacame like addictyion when couple months ago I caught myself at such moment that I started to look through my feed page very often. Fortunately I could stop myself quickly ;-)
And last point will be money, but it's not so important for considering that I didn't invest any amount of fiat since I joined to Steem.
