On what?

Have you ever thought about what you'd buy with a hypothetical chunk of money that was given to you as part of an inheritance? (Let's call the sum a years' worth of your current income.)

For some, their mind goes straight to using it for a sensible purpose like paying down debt, an investment purchase or something else that puts them ahead of where they currently are - that makes perfect sense too.

But what if you were given a free pass to spend it on something that isn't quite as sensible, like on a want item rather than a need item?

I wonder what you'd buy?

Let's leave crypto and other investments out of the answers - it's predictable and boring and not the point of this post. Is there a want item you'd buy, something you have always wanted but are too sensible to spend your money on?

Remember, the sum of money is one years' worth of your current annual income - What would you go out and purchase with it if you didn't have to be sensible and responsible with the money?

Whenever there's a mega jackpot lottery ie millions and millions, I plan in my mind what I'd do with the money. I've got all that sorted out. Ask us next time and I'll tell you 😉

For a sizeable chunk, let's say my last salary, I'd blow most of it on holiday (don't think that would surprise anyone who knows me on Hive). Specifically to South America. I'd like to go Iguaza Falls, and Galapagos island in Ecuador and probably some other countries whilst I'm there. And do it in style, business class flights, 5 star hotels, personal driver etc.

And if I still have money left, I fancy doing the 5 stans.

No you mention it, gonna check if there's a mega jackpot lottery ...

An excellent spend I'd say, travel.

And as for the mega jackpot...how can you win it if I do? ☺️

Maybe we can share 😉

Actually, wouldn't a smart contract be the perfect vehicle to run a Hive global lottery syndicate ?

Sharing is fine by me, there's plenty to go around in those mega draws.

Global lottery syndicate huh? Interesting. Knowing the Australian government and their tax fuckassery I'd get ten cents in the dollar once they took their cut.

An inground pool, mid size. with screened in covering attached to the house.

I had a swimming pool at one of my houses. I ended up getting rid of it, breaking it up and filling it in. Too much work and not enough use so figured I'd fuck it off.

If I could spend without caring, I'd buy a Toyota chr, I've been seeing them around for quite some years and I just love the design... It's true that it will have all the fucking sensors, but I just love the looking

If I could go on something that's not an item, I'd go for long holidays on Maldives, Caribbeans, etc, rather than the car

They're an odd looking little thing but I've heard they are very good. One of my friends was a Toyota new car sales girl and she loved hers (company car). I think the model she had didn't beep all the time but I'm not sure about the new model; most cars beep like fucken mad these days though.

New ones have mandatory beep due to EU regulations... You know EU is busy on what matters really...

But it's a reliable brand, I prefer them over Audi and such

It'd be a brand spanking new Hyperbaric chamber for me! My friend just had one installed at a cost of 250,000 euro:)

What? 250K?

Well, I reckon that'd be money well spent indeed.

Yes. 250K. It's the size of his living room, and inside it has a workout bench/weights, a TV screen with internet and 2 comfortable aeroplane seats. He's 73, a deep sea diver, runs two successful businesses and has zero medical conditions. I'd say money well spent!

It sounds like that chap knows what's up. Good on him for building that around himself I reckon.

Since I would have a "salary" for the whole year, I would take four months off work and find an agency where I would pay MSC World Cruises.
To leave enough $ in my pocket and pay for visas and tours full of destinations, I would have to settle for a cabin with a window and an ocean view, and if I was determined to spend every cent, I might choose a room with a balcony - after all, I should enjoy 120 days 🙂

Travel seems like a very good use of the money, I'd do the same I think.

Yeh my brain immediately went to "pay off house". Or get rid of the asbestos siding and replace it with something much friendlier x_x And solar panels and water tanks!

I need to figure out where to put the water tanks and the battery banks because as far as I can tell from the placement requirements for battery banks I have exactly nowhere they can go

Too sensible? How about the granny flat for Middle and her boyfriend and MOAR PLANTS and other garden things to finally make my garden look pretty?

I think all that should just fit inside a year's salary if it's J's not mine, with some buffer if mine is included

Is an EV still too sensible?

Fine I'll go with one of those zero gravity workstations, they would help my neck and shoulder and back so much even now but it costs as much as an expensive car.

Or if I'm being less selfish maybe take the kids for a trip somewhere.

drive and/or train around the country would be great, would also tolerate going overseas for them even though I really, really, really hate airports and flying

What would you get/do? :D

Bloody hell, that's a lot of choices. I hope you're good at decision making. I like the zero gravity thing, sounds cool,so that's my vote.

Me? I'd travel, it's a no-brainer really. I love travelling.

There's a lot of options as I wasn't sure if any of my initial things would be "interesting" enough XD

Probably would want a 3D printer. It certainly has its uses, and good things can come out of it, but the reason I will buy it is that I want to play with it.

What would you 3D print with it you reckon?

Something like an Iron Man suit comes first to mind, so might also need to fiddle with some electronics and coding stuff.

I completely endorse the Iron Man suit. ✅

I am actually having a hard time coming up with a want item to spend that much on.

Since it has to be a single item and can't be an investment it really limits my choices. I could get something like a brand new Lamborghini Urus or Ferrari Roma, but I don't feel like I really want it, in fact I would feel stupid in a car like that. I could buy a condo in Greece for that and be happy about it, but that can also be considered an investment. I guess I can get a Patek Philippe Nautilus but that is even worse than a car.

After thinking about it, I would buy my wife a 7 to 8 carat flawless diamond for that at least it could be passed on as a legacy.

That seems like a nice thing to buy and to have in the family as an heirloom, also one would have the benefit that comes with doing something for someone else as well. Nice one.

The first crazy thing I thought of buying, and I mean really crazy, was a horse. And I say it’s crazy because I didn’t think about the upkeep, the food, or where to keep it… it’s just something my mind came up with.

You'll need a saddle too!

I think it's a good purchase.

You're right! That's exactly what I'm saying, – I didn't think of anything else😆, and I want it to be my favourite horse, a Friesian!

What about a unicorn.

Nah, too expensive. Get a donkey instead.

A donkey is tiny... no, not that... a unicorn is better, it's a bargain. 😆

Well... that's a nice one, I'll buy it😆

I think that either yacht or a few horses would be a nice(even if not very sensible) purchase. or an elephant. My mother likes elephants... other than that I would only buy art supplies. I don't think that art supplies count as investment because I don't sell pieces often.

I reckon an elephant would be an excellent purchase. Do they have an elephant shop at the mall?

I don't think so. I would probably need to go Africa or Asia to bring one here. or maybe I could get one from some zoo...

Yeah, that's be the best bet, I mean you'd want an authentic elephant right?

yes. I already bought(and made) some elephant images for my mother. so assuming that money would not be an issue I would want an authentic elephant.

I heard they don't eat much, or make much mess. The perfect pet.

Well if a new roof and windows are off the table.... I'd probably buy a new truck, or a new trailer. Maybe both. My wife has been looking at different trailer layouts lately, I think she wants to upgrade ours, but I am not ready to take on that kind of debt again.

Go for both, why not huh?

For sure! I'd probably buy a used truck again, so it could be possible. If I were getting a new truck the lump sum probably wouldn't even cover that!

Yep, they charge like a wounded bull for vehicles these days.

Hmm if I could, I would invest the money in a low/medium risk instrument and spend the returns instead. That way, it lasts "forever". Otherwise, I think I would buy experiences, such as business class flights, 5 star hotel suites, and some expensive spa treatments to detox and destress.

You don't strike me as someone who has a stressful life.

Hmmm.. I would classify my life stress as moderate, but it's manageable. We all get better with coping as we grow older. 🙂

One of the investment I always wanted is owning a minibus for transportation.. not me driving but I'll give it out to someone and wait for my monthly returns from it. With time I could sell it and have money to double the minibus. Though is may sound awkward but I think it's good...

Like this one?

😂This look more like a monster truck.
I meant a smaller one, with little tires, sir

Nah, go for the monster truck, way more fun.

Fun , risky and scary.. no one will want to ride in it, especially me, I still love my life.

A piece of land to plant native trees and have rescued cows, pigs, chicken and other animals that deserve a peaceful and slow life & death, without human greed interrupting them. Maybe a little cabin there, too, if the money is enough. Though I'm not ready to live in the countryside yet. When Kami and Lily are out of the house, maybe.
