Traveling Mercies

in The Kingdomlast month

This is a different kind of topic for today's #bible911 post and I admit, I was a little taken back when I first read it...

Leaving on a trip is the topic and the chapter that deals with it is Psalm 121

At first glance, this wasn't what I thought my 'emergency numbers' would be covering, but than I got to think how important this topic is...Especially for my job!

But first, the chapter...

It's not a very long chapter, and while there are echoes of 'travel' sprinkled in it...I didn't find it to be too focused on taking a trip. Yet, what it does highlight is arguably the most important aspect of these 'bible studies'....

God will take care of you!

Look at these verses and you can't help but see that God is everywhere in them as a protector and preserver. Which brings me back to how this lesson really hits home for me...

I drive a truck for a living. So while I'm not on the road every single day, I do tend to travel quite a bit. At least more than the average adult. And something I have done for years, even before I came to my faith, is pray for protection while traveling.

I remember when I would set out for a long trip years ago, once again before I was a Christian, and my mom would always say....I pray that you have traveling mercies. And while I did appreciate it, it never hit home until pretty much these past few years. Mostly because, my new career entails...Travel.

This chapter in Psalms reminds us that we do have a Protector in heaven. He's watching over us and it is of great comfort. It's not that bad things can't happen, because they do. But when we give our lives to God and trust in Him, everything will always work out.

I think that's why I really enjoy these #bible911 lessons we're doing. Because as many times as I've read Psalms 121, I've never looked at it from a point of view of...Traveling mercies.

I have a lot to be thankful for tonight as I'm on the road for a quick trip this week...Thankful for this chapter in Psalms. Thankful for my God. And thankful for my Mom for praying for me over all these years...
