Publish and be damned

What do you make of this image? It is a representation of some kind of horse I think you will agree?

When you look closely you can see that it does actually look very 'horsey' and the artist/crafts worker who made it is quite skillful.

When we stand back and zoom out the photograph we can see that it is a tiny part of a much bigger structure. A thatched roof.

This is a bit like the situation of the content creators of the web. The interesting things that capture our attention rarely have any connection with the bigger structures that they sit on.

The fadebooks, Twatterland and suchlike all make money from the zoomed in close up view of your activity.

This is your 'granularity' and has a $ value and you will never see one cent coming your way? Steemit, busy and the other apps/dapps that we use on the steem blockchain turn this idea on it's head.

Your voice and opinion has a value to someone somewhere and not just in dollar terms. A social network works when you find people that share a common interest.

Photography is a case in point. It is very popular because just about anybody can point and click and with the support and encouragement of like minded people your photography skills can improve.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever. Orchids

I haven't posted anything anywhere since Christmas primarily because I needed to really think about this idea of sharing what I think is interesting and of value.

When I think of 'value' I do not think in dollar terms. People that do think in dollar terms know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I stopped using Fadebook and those other 'social' media networks a long time ago and just got around to deleting my accounts...again.

I know that a lot of people use these social networks to market their pet projects but I'm not playing that game anymore. It is a fruitless activity.

If we want to attract people to our platforms then we have to be enjoying doing what we are doing on here first. So post what you like. If other people like your work, great. If not, at least you had the opportunity to get some feedback to your output.

Zero engagement is also an indicator that your content is not hitting the spot with most people or you are not properly using the upvote bots to promote your post.

I like writing, taking photographs and making videos. I do these things regardless of whether I post them online but it is nice to have a home where I can share my content with some people that I have actually met in real life and knowing that my content will not vanish at the whim of some faceless corporation. That is truly inspirational.

Publish and be damned either way.

Hi all, I'm back. What did I misss lol

It looks like a wolf to me! Excellent point though - I would have never imagined the first picture was in fact on a roof!

I think you are correct though, the best way to learn is to practice - the more we create content the more practice you get and the better the content you create.

And of course the main thing is to keep enjoying what you are doing, as long as you enjoy it nothing else really matters.

Hi fella, yep exactly. Why else would we be doing it. I don't buy into the whole jam tomorrow routine but we live in hope. :-)

as long as you enjoy it nothing else really matters.

This is the key to longevity.

I'm still getting paid for blogs I wrote 9 years ago.

And here I thought it was a dog! Perspective is everything. I would never have guessed that your dog was standing on a thatched roof. As they say position is key. It's always the small things, isn't it?

I agree that we need to love what we are doing here otherwise what's the point?

I really do like it here a lot, but I can understand your thoughts on figuring out what was important. I do love the interaction within the blog and I find more enjoyment out of that then the upvote. Not that I don't enjoy the money, but if I had to choose which I would rather have oh, I think I would take the interaction. Truly, I'm tap dancing and singing at the same time here on steemit and barely breaking a dollar on a lot of posts. So I'll take the interaction.

I, for one am so happy to see you back. You bring writing that gives you cause to think and I truly appreciate it and you. Welcome back!

This gave a fit of the giggles.

Truly, I'm tap dancing and singing at the same time here on steemit and barely breaking a dollar on a lot of posts

It makes one wonder what one has to do around here to noticed?

If it's good enough for stinc, it's good enough for us lol

Truth is funnier than comedy for me. LOL

I enjoyed reading your viewpoints @molometer and completely agree with much of what you have written, Such as, "If we want to attract people to our platforms then we have to be enjoying doing what we are doing on here first. So post what you like. If other people like your work, great. If not, at least you had the opportunity to get some feedback to your output."

Enjoyment has to be a key factor in why we put time and effort into what we are doing.......especially when it takes us away from the important people in our lives. I'm so glad you are back and I look forward to reading more of your interesting blogs. Thanks so much for your wonderful support. It is greatly appreciated.

Have an awesome weekend.🌷 🌼 🌷

Hiya @trudeehunter and thank you for taking the time to read and leave your insightful comments.

Enjoyment has to be a key factor in why we put time and effort into what we are doing.......especially when it takes us away from the important people in our lives.

This is the key takeaway from my blog message. We own this platform between us all and it must be a place where we feel that we are having a good time and enjoying what we are doing. The most valuable and prescious thing we have is time.

A social network works when you find people that share common goals and interests. A strong and committed community is what gives any platform it's true value and worth.

We are very lucky when we find people that we can grow with, support and encourage.
!tip Have a lovely weekend Trudee

Michael :-)

Well Said @molometer It is a privilege to "find people that we can grow with, support and encourage," and it makes such a difference to sense of well being. Many thanks for the kind tip and comments. Enjoy the rest of your weekend too. 🌼 🌷 🌼

Thanks very much @tipu 💐

Welcome back.

Well yes that is what I have been trying to say (less polished of course) for ages! We need to post what we like. If we are trying to post to win favor, well this becomes a job not an enjoyment.

Totally agree, I cannot churn out stuff that doesn't interest me anymore than I can follow people that dont interest me. I mean how could that possible work?

Good to be back writing again. I have missed it. The real world got a little complex for a while but it's all under control now. !tip

It happens. No shame in that. Just happy to see you are back! I thought maybe you had tired of it here. I know people like @dswigle can wear anyone down LOL!!!

Haha just found your comment. Awww @dswigle is a sweetie pie and you know you are two peas on a pod.
