Taking a Stroll Back in Time

I went for a wander today to return some books I had been reading to the library and as I walked down one of my favorite roads in the city I happened along a film crew.

This isn't such a strange thing around my neck o the woods. The BBC film a huge amount of their period dramas in Liverpool's Georgian quarter where I live. This particular crew were just about to start filming for an upcoming period drama called 'The English Game' which details the origins of what us Brits like to call 'the beautiful game' football - that's soccer to all you yanks 😉

The six-part drama is said to dramatize the origins of the modern sport and explore how the game “reached across the class divide”
Quote from www.radiotimes.com.

The rain was pouring and the wind a howling today so this discovery was a nice distraction from the abysmal weather. The film crew had covered the tarmac of the street's surface with grit to help hide all evidence of the modern day world and they were just in the process of moving the cars off set when I turned up.

I told the security guy that I write a blog, wanted to take some photos and write about the shoot which did the trick to get me on set. According to the security, there was at least half an hour until filming started. Once I was through the barrier everyone just seemed to assume that I was meant to be there 😂

I was half tempted to try and get some breakfast from the cast's food truck but I thought that might be pushing the cheeky chappy act a little too far. So instead, I took a few quick snaps and wandered on to my destination as the rain was getting heavy by now.

This crew were filming on a road called Percy Street, which is undoubtedly one of the best spots for amazing original Georgian period town houses, seen in the background of these pics. But there are many more places in this area including a road near to my apartment block called St Bride Street and Gambier Terrace which overlooks the Anglican Cathedral, pictured below.

Ha - amazing! Sometimes all you've got to do is ask :D Super cool. Next time go for the breakfast :P "Yeah, I'm a pro blogger on Steem - haven't you heard about that? Don't you read your e-mail?" :P They'll be not sure what to reply and give you anything you want.

"Yeah, I'm a pro blogger on Steem - haven't you heard about that? Don't you read your e-mail?"

😂😂 Ha ha, for sure, I love that.

I should have been like: "don't you know who I am! I'm the writer... for the feature... Has no one told you about this? Get me a skinny frappee with lactose free milk, extra shot of espresso, and I want it in a mug... Not a plastic cup like all the other plebs." 😉

I think the security was just being kind to be honest letting me in. I would have totally had a crack at the breakfast if I wasn't still on a limited diet. Ha ha, remember the breakfast buffet in Krakow? They wouldn't have know what hit them 🤣

Yeah, it seems like it was a rainy day, so they probably though 'let's give this guys something to smile about' :D

Oh yeahhhh the breakfast buffets in Krakow! They were amazing :D I'm hoping to get some news on SF4 soon :P

News on SF 4! That would be awesome 😃 I wonder if Roelandp has considered Liverpool... voted 3rd best night out in the UK by some random website. They got it wrong btws... It's number 1 🤣

https://www.studenthut.com/articles/10-best-party-cities-uk

@roelandp's blog seems to have gone a bit quiet, so maybe he's starting to formulate an evil plan re SF4. sry for tagging you Roelandp, I'm just super curious for hints 😉

That's cool to just run into that. And that they let you in to snap some photos! I've been to Hollywood and visited Universal Studios and such to see there sets but I have never seen a movie being filmed on location. Thanks for sharing!

My pleasure, I'm glad you enjoyed the slice o life Liverpool style :-)

I have never seen a movie being filmed on location.

Yeah, I'm lucky in the area I live that I see it at least twice a year. this is the first time I've blagged my way on set with blogger credentials though lol

That was a good move and I'm sure you will be trying it again sine you have them in your area with such regularity!

Lucky you! I can’t believe you got onto the set. You sure you couldn’t get a side gig as an extra? 😂

Hi Jayna

haha... yeah, I'm lucky in the area I live that I see film shoots like this at least twice a year. this is the first time I've blagged my way on set with blogger credentials though lol

I should ask next time as I've been an extra before. but they usually cast for extra work months in advance... maybe someone would have not turned up though... hmnnn next time 😂

P.s. I'm tagging you in my next post which is a silly writing challenge someone else tagged me into, just thought I'd warn you ;-)

That's amazing, did you manage to see some of the cast?

and btw, I might pass by Liverpool in June on my way up to Scotland, we have to meet up.

No, unfortunately I didn't see any cast integer than the guy in costume in the second pic. I think they were all getting ready still, there were some horses in one of the back alleys I could see for the coaches but I couldn't get in there to take s pic lol

Hey, you're passing through Liverpool! That's awesome man! Definitely hit me up on discord when you know what day you're arriving and we'll meet up for sure. It's always gr8 to meet steemians.

I was at steemfest 3, I heard you were in Krakow but I didn't get to meet you! I think it was soyrosa who told me she'd met you. Or am I imagining all this?

Yes, it's true! I was in Krakow but not officialy in the events, just the openning night. I was also suposed to be on the closing night but I got ill =/

I spent a night with Soyrosa indeed and the TF crew! Then after SF3 I cycled from Poland to London.

Historic England can be just sooooo lovely. Suddenly thinking about reruns of Downton Abbey. LOL.

Ha ha, Downton abbey, I've heard about it but I haven't watched it. I more like the darker period dramas like Vikings and Peaky Blinders.

I do love historic England though, and my gran used to take me to stately halls when we were on holiday when I was a kid 🙂

Look at you scheming your way in! 😁 @raj808 with the moves. Lol.

I have a similar story about getting on the training ground of the Green Bay Packers, called the Don Hutson Center. My wife was the 'cheeky chappie' that day.

I will look out for that show. It sounds great. I can't remember if you are a red or a blue? Before I mention the Champions League?

Cheers, Gaz

😂😂😂😂🤣

I'm a red so it's safe 😉 proper surprised and 'made up' we made it through to the final. LFC ftw 🤪👍

That grit thing is a great idea. I will be looking out for that next time I watch one of those things!

Yeah, I watch the odd period drama if it's a bit dark and 'gritty'... Sht, I've reached my pun quota for the week 😉

I noticed the grit thing in a recent series I watched a few episodes of called Dickensian. I was gonna try for a Netflix binge with it but it turned out to be pretty shite tbh.

A much more bingeable series is 'the frankenstein chronicals.' That had a few scenes in it that I recognized as locations in Liverpool... and plenty of grit.

Then I shall keep an eye out for that one when me and the missus finish game of thrones!

I'm looking forward to bingeing game of thrones once this final season is over. It's one of those series I can't wait a week for the next episode so I wait until they've all aired. It's the type of thing ya can only do when you work from home lol might rewatch last season soon to get the GOT juices flowing 😂

I've had to be careful not to read any of the many steem posts I've seen about this latest series. Don't want to end up in a spoiler induced rage 🤬

Posted using Partiko Android

I normally did that with all the previous seasons but this one has been so spoiler'y I don't think I could avoid them so hats off to you if you make it!

Nice photos and format!

Cheers. I always try to experiment with markdown and html formatting to make posts look decent 🙂

Your ability to edit skillfully is one reason why I think you're the best when it comes to writing really, look at the amazing images, I mean what camera do you use?
I've come across a filming crew in the past but not as pretty as Percy lane really. Its a lovely place to shoot. Amazing, didnt seem like it was raining

Hi Jose. Thanks for the kind words. I'm so busy at the mo that I just wanted to make a short 'slice of life' post today.

The camera I use is on the Samsung Galaxy S7 which I got because it has a decent camera for a smart phone.

Amazing, didnt seem like it was raining

Ha ha, I might of over exaggerated for dramatic effect ;-)

S7? decent camera, I thought it was a shot taken by Nikon or so, I think you're coming up with this sweet shots I feel like buying an S7 myself haha

Living in Vancouver, I often run into film crews too. It does life a rainy day. We don't get a lot of period pieces though and usally are doubling for somewhere else. Still cool. Some great shots and narrative, Raj.

Thanks prydefoltz :-)

Yeah, it is always interesting living in a town where filming takes place. I did some extra work back in the day, which is why I knew about the food truck ;-) The food was always really good when I did extra work... but I wouldn't have been able to eat half of it at the mo anyway.

Also, I didn't want to get the security in trouble by being cheeky after they'd been kind enough to let me in for my photographic adventure.

I'd love to visit Canada one day and Vancouver looks real nice in all the tv shows I've seen that mention it. Big foodie culture there I've read.

I did some extra work too. The food quality depended on how many extras there were and if we had our own crafty, then it was awful, maybe some cheappastries and coffee. If it was a cattle call, you might not get anything. If we ate with the crew, it was good.

Yes there is a big foodie culture here but they cover just about everything is seed oils and carbs and so not on my menu either. Good sushi though.
