Die Civilisation, Die

in Reflections12 hours ago

I was walking our dog this evening and came across these deer grazing in a field. From the picture it looks like I might be walking through the highlands, but just on the right edge you can see a frisbee golf cage that is sitting in someone's backyard. These are the average suburbs.

A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again.

A President said this?

I don't know if a whole civilisation will die, but civility appears to have died quite a while ago in public discourse, where even those who used to be admonished for being too pretty with their words, speak ugly. Perhaps it is because in order to gain power they need to appeal to the lowest common denominator of people to get their support, and once that becomes the norm, the average shifts toward it. Incentives are aligned to attracting the masses, not in doing what is right.

The pope "condemned" Trump.

As if Trump cares.

Trump is a product of the system, not a leader of it. He is a symptom of the ill-health of society, not the cause. But symptoms also have an impact and create new and amplify old problems, and Trump is doing just that, because he is an attention-seeker and lives in the paradigm of "all publicity is good publicity" - and so far, no matter what he says or does, he is proven right. Nothing sticks.

Many thinks he is doing this to build a legacy, but I am not so sure. I reckon he may just like the sound of his voice and enjoy the attention so much, that everything is done so he can get more while he is alive. Since Trump isn't very religious if at all, he doesn't care about an afterlife, so everything he does has to be enjoyed by him now. And this makes him more dangerous, because he has a short time frame to make an impact large enough to satisfy his unquenchable ego.

In a hypothetical future post- Trump, all the names on buildings can be removed and even all mention of him can be consigned to history, but that doesn't matter - because he doesn't care about that. Now is all that matters, so he will do all he can to please himself.

See the problem of being addicted to the present?

The majority of people have bought into the "live now" paradigm because it is self-serving. The present is all we have but the power of now isn't in what we can get out of it, but what we can do with it to make the next moment better, and the next better again. The moment is the only life we ever have to move, and therefore it is the only moment we have to make a difference. Most of us though only care how we feel in the now and as long as "I feels good" it doesn't matter what else is happening in the very same now.

Whatever you are doing right now, in the same now others are suffering.

Some are sheltering under a table from falling bombs, while others are drinking dirty water on an empty stomach. Some are burning to death or being crushed by rubble, while others are ducking sniper fire. Some are sitting watching TV, reading the news, laughing at a meme, or having sex from with a stranger from Tinder they will never see again.

All now.

The now matters, because it is all we have to make a difference, but even as we might act toward helping something be better, there are people who are using the exact same moment to intentionally inflict pain on others. This is the power of now.

Trump is not exceptional.

He is average. You might not believe this since he is a billionaire President of the USA, but he is average in so many ways, just like all of us. If anything, he is an amalgamation of all the worst bits of our averageness. The difference however is that he acts upon his average desires, treating people openly poorly in ways that most people will only do in their mind. He treats people incredibly badly and acts out what many people fantasise about.

Getting revenge on perceived enemies. Getting away with illegal gains. Grabbing random women by the pussy.

He lives it.
The power of now.

Most advanced.

We are the most technologically advanced civilisation to have walked this earth, yet as far as our humanity goes, we are as base as ever. You can look at Trump and condemn what he says and how he acts, but take a look in the mirror at the same time, and recognise that while not at the same scale, you might not be that different after all. Given the opportunity and free license to do as you please, you may not be that civilised either.

Trump is a reflection of modern society.

We should all be disgusted.

Sort:

His discretionary powers is definitely average, he makes the wrong call most of the time and defends it when it backfires.

He might be a smart businessman, if not lucky, but a very poor president. I think Trump might go down as the worst president in US history.

He's so bad as a president that his ill-advised moves is not only affecting the US but the world. Think the tarrifs, the wars, especially this with Iran, etc. there's a reason he's the only president of the US who's never held any political office before assuming the presidency.

I guess people underestimate the power of experience and overestimate the power of fame and pomp, that's why they voted Trump.

Fame is all that matters these days. Everyone wants to be famous, so support those who already are. If only we supported people who did good and made them famous instead of what we do.

I think you may be on track here. Seen a post on another social today. It condemned what Trump said about killing a civilization. There was a response with likes that said something to the effect of we should make a hole out of Iran. It is a cult movement!

We have creates a world full of fetishes through the internet, so it is inevitable that deviants normalize. Trump feeds into many desires, and gets support.

You know, I always believed that if people didn’t amplify what Trump said—even when speaking against him—the guy wouldn’t be so aggressive in his behavior. I’m probably wrong, since he would find a way to make himself noticed, I know, plus the man has television networks under his control. But that possibility could be real.

By the way, the Pope condemning Trump reminds me of the rulers in my country blaming the United States for all our problems, especially in the part where you say “as if Trump cared.” We’ve spent years without producing anything, and yet condemning is supposed to be the solution to the problem.

I think he likes people hating him, because it will mean some people will like him more. A villain to one is a hero to another.

Condemnation hasn't stopped any war so far, has it?

No, never. For many cubans Trump is a hero

Trump is a reflection of modern society.

Trump's agenda is supported by almost 80 million Americans. He is the pimple on the pustule of their wishes and desires.

His supporters are not all slack jawed yokels. There are many so called Christian Nationalists. Upright uptight and perverse in their lust for power.

Not to mention the tech bro's and billionaire cabal that bought the presidency.

The corruption seems pretty systemic at this point in time.

Americans have the guns but no idea how to use them. They all quote the 2nd amendment but cannot see that a coup has taken place right under their noses. Trump is a tyrant by any measure and the other branches of government have proven to be powerless.

The January 6th insurrection is a mere footnote of the American experiment.

The constitution needs a rewrite to avoid the same scenario in the future...assuming American has a future?

Before any American is elected to be the president they should have a mental evaluation. Trump is a criminal amongst other things. This war on Iran is a distraction from the Epstein files as well as a grab for even more money and power.

The world is watching.

If I had written something like this 15 to 20 years ago it would seem outlandish and outrageous but today it's reality.

A liar is worse than a theif.
A theif may steal your money but a liar will steal your reality.

America is cooked.

The corruption seems pretty systemic at this point in time.

Yes it does and it is being pushed out and productised globally.

They all quote the 2nd amendment but cannot see that a coup has taken place right under their noses.

It is interesting isn't it? Bear arms against a corrupt government only works when those with the arms can spot corruption.

This war on Iran is a distraction from the Epstein files as well as a grab for even more money and power.

Self-preservation.

If I had written something like this 15 to 20 years ago it would seem outlandish and outrageous but today it's reality.

The devolution has been speedy to say the least.

While I do think free speech is very important, there is some nuances to that. One could argue that it's only trash talk, but coming from one of the most powerful men in the world? It opens doors. And not everyone is just talk and no doing. The more the talk becomes accepted, the easier it turns into action. Same goes for racism and such. It's not only about being able and allowed to say whatever one seems fit, but what comes after it.

Trash talk in sport is one thing, when people are being murdered though?

Not to be "that guy", but it's disc golf. Frisbee is a registered trademark of the Wham-O corporation, so somewhere along the line they moved away from calling it that. I'm not even sure Wham-O makes discs for disc golf. I saw that people are calling for others to protest in Washington tonight given what was said this morning. The problem is I don't think there is a single person who says "you know what, those people protesting made me change my mind about how right I think the president is". Until that happens, I don't think it really matters.

That guy....
(I am still yet to throw a single frisbee at one of those things. :D )

"you know what, those people protesting made me change my mind about how right I think the president is"

Protests these days are just more navel gazing.

Skill issue. I'd love to be able to help people without consequences.

Consequences for you, or for them? ;D

I think it is worrying how much self-interest has infiltrated our society, pulling us away from genuine relationships and respectful conversations. We need to work towards a shared awareness that prioritizes honesty over some people's ego.

It is crazy that people choose to be led by self-serving ego.

Nope, he's just fucked in the head.

an amalgamation of all the head fucked.

We should all feel sickened.

We can call it, history in motion or also society that forgets comes back to repeat its mistakes.

The territory is the same, but its inhabitants change, they mix, over time, they define a national identity, one and diverse, language, culture, social, economic and political system, but that in turn, does not interrupt, other mixtures and eventually, other changes.

We change so much, yet stay so much the same.

It is not just Trump, very few in America care about what Pope has to say. Catholic Church is fairly small over here...

And the Pope is American now :D

Sincerely speaking the part that really stuck with me most isn’t even about Donald Trump specifically, but the idea that he’s not some outlier he is a reflection. That’s a harder thing to sit with It is easy to point at one person and say that is the problem, but a lot harder to admit that the environment allowed that kind of personality to rise.

Ai is bad for you. Put in some effort, you're a human being.

I hear you, but I actually read the post and shared my own understanding, that's an effort too and That’s the main thing for me. If you see it differently, no problem.

I see it different.

I understand, and I appreciate your perspective. Sorry if my comment came across the wrong way that wasn’t my intention.

I was just sharing how it looks from my side, especially for everyday people. I’m always open to hearing different views though

Thanks for sharing yours my great admin @tarazkp🙏
