Feeling a little Bluetooth

I am a little bit annoyed today...

IMG_20220103_192217.jpg

My grand plan was to buy a PC today and after going into the store and finding out how little they had in components, I was talked into taking a pre-built one instead. That is okay, I don't game or anything, but my plan is to still stick some more RAM (it only has 16) once I have a fiddle. I also picked up a new keyboard and a couple Samsung 27" monitors, as the two I have been working on date back to the Neolithic period. They were 40% off, so not a huge expense on top of the PC.

It took me ages to backup my old (5+ years) computer and then start the process of getting the new set up. Even though I got it in the morning, due to desk space, I hadn't fired it up yet and once did, was disappointed to find that it doesn't have a Bluetooth card installed into it, despite doublechecking that it did.

Frustrating.

So, now I have had to contact their support and do a reclamation, to which they will "decide" whether they will give me one (they are like 20€) to put into a PCI slot. After spending an hour and a half in store getting this organized, the additional hours this has wasted don't feel good, but the shop is about a 40 minute drive away, making it all the more annoying and - I could have built one and installed the OS faster than all of this, by far.

Live and learn - Trust no one.

I definitely needed a new PC of some sort though and in comparison to my old one, this should be noticeably faster. I am not one of those people who buys things for marginal change and insignificancy, I want to actually notice the difference, otherwise it isn't really worth making a change.

There are enough odds and ends around my office to do what I need to do with the PC, but I don't want to install everything and then discover that I will have to take it back in - as that would be very, very annoying, since I would have to wipe it first. But, with scheduling issues (I am on holiday kinda, but still have work to do), I will probably have to get started on it.

Some people really enjoy getting a new computer, but I have lost that joy, since I no longer game. Back in the day, it was always nice to be able to start up a FPS and getting killing at greater speed, but the joy is gone. However, one thing I am hoping will improve is the general lag between tabs, as I tend to have a million tabs open across multiple windows and browsers.

I wonder if anyone has calculated how many sites they go to daily to manage their crypto, but currently for me (working on my work PC so not all are used here), there are over 70 open across perhaps 35 different sites. Not all of these need to be open all of the time, but I would probably go to all of them daily at least once, most multiple times. It really is a fulltime job managing crypto, but I think it is the one of the three that I enjoy the most and, I predict will likely be the most financially rewarding as well.

These days, I see pretty much everything I spend as an investment into the future of some kind, though it isn't always a financial investment. What I mean is that for instance, while the PC I bought is actually for my business, it also brings me a little bit of peace of mind (though current frustration of mind) as I don't have to worry as much about losing my old one suddenly, as pretty much I would grimace on each startup, hoping my teeth grind would see it through another day. there is no such thing as security, but risk mitigation is still possible.

Maybe I am just getting older and starting to reevaluate what is important to me, but I also think that a lot of my changes in consumer behavior are directly related to my time in crypto so far, as it has helped me better understand personal finances, as well as my own activities. If I could go back in time knowing what I know now, not only would I have a lot more sex, I would also probably be far wealthier as well.

Experience matters a great deal, which is why I think that more people should build experience, not buy experiences. I feel that over the last few decades, there has been this idea that we need to experience a lot to widen our eyes to the world, which is somewhat true, but I think this has been translated into a consumer behavior. For example, I know people who have travelled the world and seen the most amazing places, yet are just as narrow as they always were. "Seeing the world" doesn't automatically make you creative.

For instance, one of the most creative minds to have lived is Leonardo Da Vinci, yet he didn't really leave Italy and travelled predominantly between Florence and Milan, which is about a 300km trip. sure, that is well travelled back then, but "experience" means more than places visited and sites seen - A lot of doing is required too. But, a lot of experience these days is largely observational only, consumer experience, not experiencing it first-hand as a participant. Which is why I think a a lot of people can feel so attached to movies and shows these days, as they feel real enough to count as "being there", even though it is completely constrained without any chance of random outcomes.

I think that it is this participation on Hive that has affected my own outcomes so much over the years, as rather than learning the theories of economies, I get to play with them. Not only that, I get to play in various different economies with all kinds of variables and get to interact and affect change. As I said earlier, I want to invest for significant change, something that makes a difference in my own experience and hopefully, for the better. It doesn't always turn out that way, but that is part of the experience too.

Well, so speaking about experience, wile writing this, I have decided that the best thing to do will be to go ahead and start installing programs onto the new PC, as even though it might be a waste of time, it is better to waste tonight, than tomorrow. Since I have already signed in, I would have to wipe it still, so it doesn't really save me any time in that regard anyway.

But first.... dinner. I don't remember eating that much today and it is already almost 9pm. It is funny how time flies when "having fun" so that we might even forget to eat. Or perhaps, the annoyance had stolen my appetite and now after writing and clearing my head, my body is starting to function normally again and get hungry.

Whatever, but at least I am slightly less annoyed.

Your pc is the tool you must have, smart move getting one in the sales, can you also claim it on your tax?

lololol - and, new PC - doesn't have my vote defaults!! :D

yeah, I can claim it - which makes it easier to buy :)

I'll have to look at Joe Bonamassa's catalogue to see if he's actually published "New Computer Blues" or if it's just a song that lives in my head. :)

I'm about 10 days into my new PC. Everything works as promised and it IS fast. The biggest drawback at this point is that it is a windows OS. I'm going to partition the HD and install Ubuntu but decided to familiarize myself with Windows before I do. I'm going to keep Windows just simply due to a couple of programs that aren't available in Linux. Win95 was my last Windows product.

I ordered mine, and the only thing I had to go to the store for (Walmart just before Christmas) was a monitor to HDMI fitting. Yep, new computer is strictly HDMI.

I sympathize with your frustrations. I never have over 10 tabs open so 16 GB ram is plenty for me. I have a million bookmarks but I don't run many tabs.

Just think of all the fun we are having.

They tried to sell me a Mac, but I can't use one!! I think Ubuntu would be worse...

Yep, new computer is strictly HDMI.

Weird thing in this one, only one true HDMI, but 3 screen outputs. silly.

Yep, new computer is strictly HDMI.

Will likely go to 32, maybe even 64 - just to make sure.

I spend my days flicking through tabs... :D

I just got a new PC a couple of months ago and I know how stressful it can be to get everything back the way you want it. Best of luck with that. Hopefully they can get your Bluetooth issue sorted out. Mine was a laptop, so I didn't have to worry about that.

I was going to go with a laptop, but will probably go to 64 RAM, so it wasn't really possible :)

Yeah, that would be tough. You shouldn't have any tab issues with that much RAM. I think that is what I have in my desktop at work.

I remember that I chose the components of my PC and waited the company to set up them for some hours. If problem, I had to change that component.

However, there are already laptops with 32 GB ram. It might have met your needs.

This wasn't installed by them - it was a wellknown brand - I think they just assumed it would have BT.

Never had a laptop last me much past 2 years...

Pouring frustration on Hive, feel better, eat, work, sleep and repeat :P
You have a nice routine there. Annoyed or not, you have nice stories for readers.

Hopefully people learn something too! :

Will be getting a new laptop once the bull market comes. I think it is good to re evaluate your needs and what is important. My key letters are disappearing from all the post writing so can only imagine what condition your keys would be if it was a laptop. I want a laptop solely for crypto and nothing else making it as secure as can be.

Funny story - last night was I was writing a post, my watch asked me if I wanted to start a rowing workout! :D

This makes sense.

I hope you enjoy your new computer. 😊

Once I get it set up... hate the setup.

You sound as bad or worse than my wife when it comes to having open tabs. Me the most I have open is 5. Sometimes as many as 7 and in extreme rare times as many as 10, but I honestly can not remember having 10 opened in a very long time. My 3 Hive Tabs, a hivetask tab and a duckduckgo tab. Hive increases to 4 tabs when I am commenting on a post.

What operating system did the pre-build come with? Is it the same as your old one?

I like your choice of opening picture. To me it does kind of seem to fit Frustration, like your wife is using a flashlight to get the coffee ready in the hopes the power will be back on momentarily. It is what I kind of see, I know it is not reality, but with the blue hue, it looks cold, she looks bundled up, and it looks like a coffee set up station. and the way the light glows it looks like a flashlight glow. So what could be more frustrating than waking up, it is cold, you have to bundle up, and you can not make a nice cup of hot coffee.

You do real good at capturing and altering moments with some of your photo's and using them to good effect.

I have multiple peakd, peakmonsters, blog, exchanges.... the list goes on.

Same - W10 - though I upgraded to 11 just before starting installs.

If my wife can't have a cup of tea - there would be hell to pay!

Thank you. I try to use some of the mundane in my life to see if I can turn it into something interesting. Glad you notice :)

I had the same problem with my purchase of a new laptop, got it and was happy until I realized that it has 300GB instead of 500GB amongst other issues, pretty much frustrated at this point.

Yeah, it sucks when it isn't what you paid for.

Yeah, it does.

I also used to build my own gaming PC's. Now, I just use the PS4 when I want to game (I only play a few FPS occasionally nowadays). I do however like to have the graphics power to edit photos and even more power hungry videos.

I found a few cycles ago that while it may be just a bit more costly up front, it's more efficient for me to just buy a top end "gaming" laptop. I then just pop it on my desk with a KVM switch so I can easily switch back and forth between my personal laptop and my work laptop (required to be separate for security reasons and restrictions). This lets me use the same large monitor and external keyboard/mouse between them, and easily pop the laptop off should I want to take it in the other room or on travel. The small amount of cost difference over 3-5 years is minimal given that buying the high end gaming model and graphics cards typically adds an extra year or two for usable lifetime.

I'm partial to the AlienWare and Dell offerings, but there's plenty others out there, something to consider next go around.

This is what I need the most.

Almost got my wife and kid a PS5 today, but I will wait for a bit, since we just had Christmas. I have never owned a console, so it will be interesting to see if it gets used. Do you play much?

I have just done much the same, though there are two HDMIs on the screens, so they can go straight into the work laptop dock, then I can just flick between source. Handy, as the screens have a remote to do it. Now I can sit at one desk :)

This was actually my plan, but there was a gap in the supply and a few week wait (which I can't at the moment unfortunately), so the high end was way too high end for my wallet - 9990€

Don't play much anymore, maybe a few hours a week, but still enjoy.

Check out the AlienWare M15 series from Dell. 32G RAM Nvidia Gforce RTX with 8G and a Half TB drive for just under $2K U.S. They always have one of the best shipping times and next day replace/repair options... Mainly why my favorite. If nothing else the standard to compare others to. Your price seems way high.

Not quite the same, but what I found similar and the RTX is 6. That is in Euros - so... $4800 US :D

70 tabs!? What are your top 3 you use everyday? Any of those tabs just for fun?

I think there are far too many people who aren't experiencing life even if they do travel, but more so if theydon't. I have met many close-minded people especially over the last few years who never leave their hometown, but think they know so much about ALL the things in every other person's life. It makes me wonder how it would change their life if they just took the time to go and experience something outside of ther comfort zone.

top 3 are peakd, hive.blog and discord. But, there are multiples as well as splinterlands, peakmosters, monstermarket, various exchanges, LEO, CUB...

Oh, you have visited where I grew up! :D

People need to get out more - especially now.

sorry you had to go through all that for the bluetooth, was it finally installed for you ?

Nah, will have to wait til morning.

This type of things happen sometimes in our lives especially if our expectations are not meant I Will advice you leave it for sometime and take a walk to cool off your mind and come back to continue. Nothing should take our joy from us.

There is no walking away - I am not angry, just need it working.

Uou did your best boss b

These comments aren't great.

for you 16 gm ram is not enough might upgrade to 32 GB ram in thinking of upgrading my PC to 64 GB ram

64 is probably where I will end up - there are four slots for it :)

Ok make sure they are new

do people buy used ram?

Some do or shops brand them as new

have the best time with your new gadget. you know the feeling is a little different in the start. also, sorry for all what happened with you. but, let's look at it this way - whatever happens is only for good, there was something better hidden for you in all what happened. Enjoy all of it dear friend. thanks for sharing your part of the story! :)
