absolutely. people's thoughts and brains become delusional when they crave money. they lose all morals and integrity and become monsters, no longer their true selves
If you do it all the time without any real reason/goal, then yes, it is a mental illness.
Just like being selfish and greedy.
The Steem blockchain is full of people with mental illness.
Most of the users care about only their own blog posts, they do not care about other people's blog posts. They are very selfish and greedy.

In our current society, money = power
I think it's not just within human-nature, but actually all of nature, that makes organisms crave power.
Power will give you freedom, control, and opportunities. All of that is currently being dispensed via money, so that's what some are craving for :^)
