Haunted Hollywood: Stories of the Paranormal

In the Early 1900's a promising actress named Peg Entwistle did not achieve fame on the movie screen as she always dreamed. It was only after her untimely death that led to her ghost becoming the stuff of Hollywood legend. On the night of September 18, 1932, the actress Peg Entwistle climbed to the top of  Mount Lee in Los Angeles to the site of the iconic Hollywood sign. Peg then climbed up to the top of the 50 foot high letter H. It was here that she took one last look at the city she had hoped would help her achieve success. She then leaped to her death, where she died. It wasn't until the next day that her body was found by a hiker. But this would not be the last time Peg Entwistle would be seen. Here tortured soul would been seen by the unsuspecting as well as the curious ghost seekers.  It is around the still famous Hollywood landmark that Peg still wonders.

A actress with a promising future

Born in 1908  Peg was a child that saw her share of tragedy. She was very young when her mother died and moved with her father to New York.  Peg was only in her teens when tragedy struck again. Her father was hit by a car while walking and died instantly. These tragedies did not stop Pegs ambitions of becoming a star. She starting working in theater productions on Broadway. After a failed marriage with a notable actor, she set her sights on Hollywood. She moved to Los Angeles in 1932 hoping of landing roles on the big screen.  It appeared that destiny was on her side when RKO signed her to appear in the film Thirteen Women. Peg thought she had finally made it but when the film's preview received poor reviews the studio was forced to re-edit the film which unfortunately cut out Pegs role in the film. Because of this RKO dropped her contract, leaving Peg now unemployed.

On the night of September 18 1932 a depressed and drunk 24-year-old Peg Entwistle started to make her way to the Hollywood sign where she would become one of the many tragedies of Hollywood.

Peg Entwistle's Ghost

When a life ends in tragedy, sometimes there spirit remains behind and haunts the location of their death. In this case Pegs ghost apparently still wanders in the area around the Hollywood sign where she jumped to her death.

  • Over the years many park rangers have reported seeing a blonde woman dressed in period clothing of the 1930's wandering around the paths of the park. She has been described by many as looking sad, but when anyone tries to approach her, she vanishes into thin air
  • A couple walking their dog on one of the any paths also saw something they couldn't explain, their dog began to behave strangely. Suddenly a woman in 1930's clothing appeared out of nowhere right in front of them, again she vanished before their very eyes.
  • The most recent encounter reported with Pegs Ghost was by four friends. This story was even featured on Syfy's Paranormal Witness. The friends decided to venture to the Hollywood sign. Even though this are is off limits they still decided to go up.
On their way back down they saw someone on the path walking towards them. It appeared to be a women wearing out of style clothing She appeared to glide up the hill. She made no sound and then she chased them down the mountain. It wasn't until later that they read about Peg entwistle.

The major Irony on the story of Peg was that the next day after Peg killed herself a letter arrived at her house with a offer for a lead role. The role was about a women who commits suicide.

:[ Very sad story. But interesting. Haven't come across paranormal on steemit yet.
Actually, an interesting thing happened me in LA a few years back.
Myself and some friends were parked outside Forest Lawn Glendale late one night ( we had been there that day and stopped outside the gates on our way back from Universal). We were just chatting in the car when suddenly ALL of us heard what sounded like a lady singing (from inside the gate) but it was like old Hollywood style... 40's era . We ALL heard it.. and there wasn't a single person around.
We never sped off so fast!!! It gives me chills to even think back on it!

Yea Im gonna try and get a paranormal topic started. Thats a cool story too. I actually used to live in Glendale and know that place very well

It's a beautiful spot! I loved it there :]
