2020 the ruling party passes an agricultural bill with an unusual attachment. This attachment gives federal authorities more power to seize existing guns from those who fail background checks or mental health checks at any time.
2021 another hidden attachment on an unrelated bill makes the background checks and mental tests easier to fail, even for healthy law abiding citizens.
2025 after yet another mass shooting, a massive push again occurs for stronger gun laws. This results in current gun owners having to re-certify every few years. With the laws from 2020 and 2021 this results in massive gun seizures.
2028 with many guns already stolen by federal authorities the government again passes a hidden law that defines anyone of certain "undesirable" political affiliations, education levels, ethnicities, etc, from owning guns. This could and would include communists, anarchists, III%, etc, etc. Anyone the government has targeted is now disarmed, possibly imprisoned or dead.
This is how gun control becomes a gun ban. It is the slippery slope that tyrants have spent billions of dollars trying to convince you doesn't exist.

That sounds like an epic battle. I sure hope I have the stamina for it. My trouble is that I don't know how to tell who is a whale. I'm also glad that I have a couple years to build up from borrowed Steem to whale Steem.
