Who wouldn’t want a magic pill that could solve all of our problems and take our frustration away?
There’s always something wrong, sometimes we feel like the whole world is working against us and it is really hard to overcome this feeling.
Anger and sadness don’t allow us to breath freely, they are hard to beat feelings.
But where do these feelings come from?
We become angry when someone’s actions aren’t the same with our expectations.
You expect your partner to read your mind and know what you want, you expect your co-worker to help you but you don’t ask for help, and so on.
There are a lot of examples, but in all of them there is a useless expectation and a profound disappointment.
People who often get angry with someone are people who believe, at an unconscious level, that everyone owes them something.
“My partner should bring me coffee to bed”
“Kids should listen to their parents and study”
“My friends should always help me when I’m in trouble”
“My parents should support me in everything I do”.
And if these things don’t happen, we become disappointed and we get angry at those around us who aren’t meeting our expectations.
For you to understand what’s the deal with anger, I have a nice story to tell you. I hope it will be helpful.
One day, an apprentice went to his spiritual teacher to ask for advice.
-Master, I have noticed that you’re always in a good mood and you’re extremely calm. Can you teach me how to be like that? What should I do to stop getting angry at people?
-Of course I will help you. Go get a bag.
-And what will I do with it?
-When someone angers you, take a potato, write his/her name on it and put the potato in the bag.
You have to do this every time you get angry because of someone.
After some time, the bag was filled with potatoes, some of them started to rot so the bag became really hard and smelly.
The young boy went to his master to find out what to do next.
-Master, the bag is too heavy and it smells, I can’t carry it around anymore. Can I throw it away?
-You can throw it away when you’ll throw away your anger that makes your soul heavy and rotten.
that reality.
