The animal is a moonfish Mola alexandrini, in 1996, was mistakenly identified as Mola mola, a more well-known species of moonfish. The moonfish is the largest bony fish in the sea. Unlike sharks and rays, it has a skeleton made of bone instead of cartilage. They are also very strange. Their bodies are huge and round, they can grow up to about 10 feet long.

the largest recorded catch was actually a M. alexandrini captured in 1996 off Kamogawa, Japan. That fish was 8.9 feet (2.72 m) long, which raises the question of whether some individuals of this species are even heavier. In 2004 fishermen recorded the capture of a M. alexandrini of 10.9 feet long (almost 3.32 m) near the island of Aji, Japan, but they did not weigh that giant.

Can you imagine yourself swimming and finding this giant fish?
