Oh how I miss my beautiful Dixie girl. She was almost 12 years old and passed away on December 27th. It's been hard on me, so hard. For me, my animals aren't just pets, they are family. We got her when she was just 10 months old. We drove 2 hours to get her from a family that was just going to send her to the pound. She spent those 1st 10 months of her life in an outdoor kennel with no interaction with the family that owned her. For the life of me I don't understand anyone that gets a dog and keeps them outside all the time.

This girl was so easy to house train and was the absolute sweetest. I couldn't have asked for a better dog. I know in time it will hurt less, I've been through this more than 10 times in my life. But it never gets any easier. Every loss makes me rethink having pets, but then I miss them and the cuddles, the loyalty, everything.

At the end, she was unfortunately riddled with cancer. We got her better from a pretty severe UTI in November. After that she was a new dog. Excited to go outside, played with the others at times, her appetite was more than I had seen in years. The last month of her life was so amazing and I couldn't be more grateful that she had it that way. She went downhill within 2 days and passed so peacefully at the foot of my bed, in her happy place with us by her side. I will forever miss my Dixie girl.
