Last week I told the story of how I'd come across a letter which contained a poem written by my friend Rose who lost her battle with cancer. (Click the link above to read the full post containing the poem).
I was very touched by what she wrote and wanted to pay homage to her so I created this mixed media piece containing a quote from the #poem.
First I thickly gessoed a small canvas, creating texture with a pallet knife. Then I added a dark layer of blue acrylic paint, followed by a lighter one. I sanded back the layers to let some dark areas show through and some of the gesso.
Then I added more gesso using some ready meal packaging as a stencil (the small white circles). Next I added some cardboard flowers and to tone them back I stuck sone separated napkin on top of them. I continued the rose theme, from the napkin on other areas of the background.
Next I printed off the quote - "In the minutiae of every living moment is everything, May you appreciate the minutiae" - and inked the paper to help it blend in better.
