Pfusion, Modo, 3ds Max - Experimental Modeling & Animation

Pfusion Is Very Powerful

Modo has always had some good tools for modeling but now with the addition of pfusion it is becoming more and more powerful I was able to create some pretty complex forms in a matter of minutes. It actually took longer to texture the model than model it. It is sort of a work in progress.

I would be interested to know if anyone else has any experience with pfusion and your thoughts or opinions. I have attached one other short sequence of another model. I have not been very happy with the texturing results that I have been getting. For one thing Redshift does not have triplaner mapping and I am not great with UVmapping.

Sort:

hi again, I can map the UV's for you :) that has been most of my work life it seems :D that and participating in contests and getting a 2% win rate :D

I think it is a thing I am going to have to learn. Modo has some cool tools and Max is getting better. I even think I have HeadUs laying around on this machine. I think I just make poor decisions on where I put my seems. Most of what I do is hard surface modeling so I would think it would be somewhat easier. I really have to find some tutorials that don't put me to sleep.

hah here is my tutorial, projection mapping, lay out the flat pieces, place the seams where there are less stretches if the geometry is warped. Try to keep it simple and know where everything goes, I normally do that in my main app, I make all seams there make the quick outlines so to speak and then head over HeadUs and I stretch them there and pack, fix whatever is broken, then head over again in my main app and make the final adjustments to the positions.

Done Layout perfect, no stretches, simple seems and less of them.

I normally map Characters and products, I don't bother making UV's for everything, since it's a hassle, but Max has some great tools for UV's maybe check out some fun tutorials, Gnomon or some big studio or quality artist.
That tends to be fun :) and you get to see pro's in action :)
