Silent blog from war zone: going on with portrait sketching

in #art3 years ago

Hi, guys!

Yesterday I spent almost the whole day drawing sketches, and I remembered very well how hard it is to return to this process after a long time. At first, everything turns out obliquely and crookedly, this moment you just have to endure. The sooner you let go of all the bad drawings, the sooner the good ones will appear. One of my teachers said that every artist has about 2,000 bad drawings. And as soon as they all come out, something good will immediately begin to turn out. I really like this theory, it helps to persevere in practice and not give up.

For the time being I won't show sketches of the figure, they're not very good so far, but I'll show quick sketches of portraits. With the image of a human head, everything is already much simpler for me, but now I need to gain speed and draw emotions, and this is completely different. I watch a lot of courses on the SkillShare platform, but the trouble is that it's hard to find quality ones there. Some people just draw one drawing for an hour and a half without speeding up the pace of the video, and watching such tutorials is simply awful. And some manage to give out a lot of useful information in 15 minutes, this is pure luck, which course you get on.

For now, I can show you quick sketches of the head. I make them using the YouTube channel Crocus Cafe, where you can do nude sketches, and at the same time sketches of the head, usually the screen is divided into two parts, one has a full-length model, the other only the head, and this is very convenient for quick sketches.

Here's a little of what I got yesterday. One minute, maximum one and a half for each head:
