I just listened to an interview by Chris Hedges, where he describes in eloquent detail just how doomed our society is. Economic despair, prison slavery, the rise of fascism, and swelling incidences of suicide. I can't look away from the supernova of an imploding society, and I turn to my favorite plant to compensate.

Politics and personal problems fade slightly, making way for a particular kind of light and beauty that eminates from all living things. Temporarily relieved from an encroaching despair... the drug is deceptive, though, in that it sows a slow and personal decline.
