The Pipe Smoker

in #art7 years ago (edited)

A morning experiment using photos of grass, Icelandic skies, different fabrics etc. to make some noisy structure and then drawing on top with a pencil like brush. It turned out very much differently that I had expected as I choose to follow some of the random things that showed up. It reminds me a bit about the crayon collages that was popular in the nineties.

I'll post the high resolution file when I get time. It is 4700 x 4700 px.

I, too, love this. The colours are muted yet striking like waking from a dream that seemed so real. And it does have the 90's feel about it. So, it can win with nostalgia alone.

I hope @winstonalden sees it, I mean it has a pipe in it for heaven's sake, a tobacco pipe as well (I assume)

:) I assume it to be tobacco too. Both my grandfathers smoked pipe, and I still love the smell and culture of pipes. Cigarettes and cigars are less attractive and I can't really deal well with any kind of tobacco smoke to be honest.

My favourite grandfather smokes a pipe. @winstonalden also smokes a pipe and works in the oldest tobacconist in our country. So, when I am out of the house for a bit and return, the scent always immediately transports me back to my grandparents and the little lift of joy and 'I'm home' hits me. Odd, that, how scent can so transport us.

I'll have an occasional hand rolled cigarette with good tobacco rarely, it's usually during a good beach fire or at the end of a Summer day chatting with friends and watching the sea. It's more of a punctuation to a moment in time than a 'need'. In fact I haven't had one since last Summer.

The difference between the scent of that outdoors with the sea and beachfire is miles away from horrible chemical filled over the counter cigs in a closed in space, that's for sure.

The fine old shop W.Ø. Larsen on Amagertorv is closed now, but we used to go there to buy Turkish cigarettes for my father in law - the same the queen prefers.

Whoop whoop! A cheesevanilla hat!!

Uh, I really like this, @katharsisdrill! The colours, the composition, that strange hat! The beautiful and strange strokes that gives rise to texturey vibes.... Aaah, what a lovely piece <3 Your experimental stuff is really awesome <3

Hehe that's excellent
