Church of the Holy Apostle Peter. Lahta.

in #art6 years ago

On the road on the way to the resort towns I told you about (Fox Nose, Sestroretsk and Zelenogorsk) there is a place called Lakhta. In this area, which is part of the resort area of St. Petersburg, is the Church of St. Peter the Apostle.

The church was built in 1893 - 1894 according to the project of Russian architects Vasily Ivanovich Shaub (father) and Vasily Vasilyevich Shaub (son).
At the end of the 19 century, Lahta became a popular holiday place. The increase in the number of summer residents and the spread of sectarianism among the inhabitants caused the need to build an Orthodox church. The decision to build own temple was timed to coincide with the event on November 1724, when, according to legend, Peter I rescued sinking soldiers and sailors during a flood in St. Petersburg.
The temple was laid in June 1893. Near the temple was built two-story building for the placement of the parish school and orphanage.

In 1938 the church was closed and opened again only in 1991. Today, services are held here and the church is always ready to receive its parishioners.

Fantastic post

What an amazing building, and the colours. It looks straight out of a fairy book, especially in the woods like that. I'm so glad it opened again. I'm so fascinated by Russian architechture.

Russian architecture really has distinctive features, although much of it since the reign of Peter the Great was borrowed from European countries such as Italy, Holland, France and Germany. But Russian architects still managed to make "their own" in the construction of buildings and structures.
