An ink drawing
The drawing I completed today is called 'We Left the Countryside for the City'. In this ink drawing the figures are walk past hedges and trees as they leave the countryside and make their way towards the city.
The background for the drawing was created by scoring into the paper with a scalpel, then applying layers of ink and water to the paper with a brush. Once the paper was dry I added the details of the drawing using my dip pen and black drawing ink.
They left the countryside behind them as they walked towards the distant city, surrounded in smog its buildings sprawled out across the skyline.

If you want to see some of my previous ink illustrations check out DWELLING, an illustrated crime novel collaboration between myself and fellow Steemian @dougkarr, set in New York’s Lower East Side. Dwelling is now available in print and ePub.
That's an interesting technique. Very neat!

Thanks. The way the ink dries gives interesting, and at times random, marks. Often the more dominant marks have an influence on what the subject of the drawing will be.
Appreciate the backstory on how you did it. That is cool
Thank you @enjoywithtroy, I have a couple more inked backgrounds drying, so I will be creating some more pieces soon.
I really like the randomness of the technique. It's almost as if the piece is giving clues as to how it wants to be born.
