There's this thing about landlords and their rental properties... They really really hate trees and don't care how hot it gets in the apts. It just doesn't make sense really. Happy tenants stay put and pay their rent... Am I wrong about this? The cognitive dissonance and conflictual realities seem to just be getting worse and worse.
If I owned apts I would make them as lush and green as possible. I would make tenants agree to not cut down any trees or plants on the property. I would actively look for tenants who love plants and would be happy with that. Good quiet ceiling fans in the living room and bedrooms and At the very least AC in the bedrooms so people could sleep. Why is this controversial? Sorry. I'm not really asking.
There is a small yard outside that has enough room for a tree. The oldest stupid story people endlessly repeat in So Cal is "Its near the beach, You don't need AC" I'm not a freaking lizard in a terrarium. Money. Money talks and that's it. It's very expensive and painful being poor.
I understand about trees and landlords. I used to rent a house from my sister's husband's family, who were very nice people. We had a huge storm and nothing bad happened where I was, but maybe another property got some damage from a falling tree and from there on out, they really wanted to have the trees taken down from all the properties. If not, when a tree died and had to come down, they did not replace it. In the nature of the possible loss, I can semi understand, but homes are so much nicer when there are some trees in the yards.
I get what you mean that you ask... but aren't asking. :) The A/C part would be much harder to handle now as an adult. When I was a child I grew up without it but there were trees and fans and.... well.... we were young!
I remember beach trips and if you were ocean front, about 98 percent of the time thee was a breeze coming in off the water, still, if it is very hot, it's not always cool enough inside. I guess if you own something, you can do as you please no matter. It's true that being poor is very inconvenient about a lot of things.
We used to have window fans that you put in a window and at night, you turned the direction where it blew outside. You had the windows cracked open in some of the other rooms and it would pull a little breeze into those other rooms. I haven't thought about those in years.
When I was younger I only remember a few days a year that were too hot. I'm not sure that it's actually hotter now. I'm just really sensitive to it now. There are single family homes here bigger than the entire building I live in. Right next door. They have central AC. They rarely even use it. I get really angry about the whole rental torture issue. People have to suffer so that others can live far better off. If AC is unecessary then why does every store and shop in California have it? Because people would walk right out and not buy anything. It's 7:20 pm here right now and the sun is blasting on the wall outside. it won't be gone until almost 8pm. That and I'm in a super high density area. There's no open space. No big yards. There's the beach where you can fry in the sun and a 700 space parking lot. There's freakin people everywhere. I don't have money to move and I'm dying here. there's no friends to call. no one to come by and go somewhere. Most nights there's nowhere to park. The homeowners and people with money and friends seem to love it. I have nobody and nothing. The little art I make? I guess I should shut up and die. I pray everyday. I don't know what to say. A miracle? I hope so. This is so hard and painful to talk about.
