Einstein's Food For Thought

Want to know what Einstein wants for lunch?

“Although I have been prevented by outward circumstances from observing a strictly vegetarian diet, I have long been an adherent to the cause in principle. Besides agreeing with the aims of vegetarianism for aesthetic and moral reasons, it is my view that a vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind.”
― Albert Einstein; Translation of letter to Hermann Huth, December 27, 1930

I, like Albert Einstein, see the deleterious effects the meat industry has on our bodies and environment. I am not a vegetarian, but at least I aspire to that I will be able to raise my own animals according to eco-friendly methods.

Here is an article that discusses some of the effects of overgrazing among other things... http://www.ecoculturevillage.org/ev-project-culberson/

And here are 10 other quotes of Albert Einstein:

1

“Try not to become a man of success, but a man of value. Look around at how people want to get more out of life than they put in. A man of value will give more than he receives. Be creative, but make sure that what you create is not a curse for mankind.”
― Albert Einstein; Einstein and the Poet (1983)

2

“A human being is part of the whole, called by us Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
― Albert Einstein; Letter of 1950. As quoted in The New York Times, 29 March 1972

3

“We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
― Albert Einstein; Earliest attribution found: "The Journal of Transpersonal Psychology, Volumes 1-4", Transpersonal Institute, 1969, p. 124. Similar idea also quoted in: Skeptic, Volumes 1-10, 1974, p. 55

4

“Do not worry about your difficulties in Mathematics. I can assure you mine are still greater.”
― Albert Einstein; Letter to high school student Barbara Lee Wilson (7 January 1943), Einstein Archives 42-606

5

“I am happy because I want nothing from anyone. I do not care for money. Decorations, titles or distinctions mean nothing to me. I do not crave praise. The only thing that gives me pleasure, apart from my work, my violin and my sailboat, is the appreciation of my fellow workers.”
― Albert Einstein; Viereck interview (1929)

6

“Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods.”
― Albert Einstein; The New Quotable Einstein - Essay to Leo Baeck (1953)

7

“I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.”
― Albert Einstein; Why Socialism? (1949)

8

“The most important tool of the theoretical physicist is his wastebasket.”
― Albert Einstein; Told by P. Morrison - Albert Einstein: A guide for the perplexed (1979)

9

“I consider it important, indeed urgently necessary, for intellectual workers to get together, both to protect their own economic status and, also, generally speaking, to secure their influence in the political field.”
― Albert Einstein; In a comment explaining why he joined the American Federation of Teachers local number 552 as a charter member (1938)

10

"The only source of knowledge is experience.”
― Albert Einstein; The Ultimate Quotable Einstein (2010 edition), Princeton University Press
