I was shocked to hear from @deviedev that she had no clue what a Kinder Egg is! Apparently they are banned in the US and it is no part of her childhood memories. Pity, I say!
So what is a Kinder Egg?

For those of you who have never seen one, unlucky to reside in one of the countries that ban JOY:
It's a chocolate egg that contains a "surprise". The surprise is usually a multi-part toy that needs to be assembled according to instructions inside, all neatly wrapped in a small yellow case ( the yolk of the egg, as it is ). Basically, Kinder Egg is the IKEA of toys!
Although it was obviously designed for children (Kinder means children in German!( the toys gathered a following and some people like to collect them.
I researched a bit as to why they are banned and for the US at least it seems the reason is: US regulation does not allow placing a 'non-food' object inside food. It's, of course, a safety concern. Oh well, I have eaten hundreds and never got even close to eating the plastic piece. But maybe Eastern European kids are smarter :))

As a kid, the Kinder Egg was one of the best thing to receive. I used to get one for good marks at school, for birthdays or random surprises from my parents. It was always a treat and a happy event. Basically, I was trained to expect one whenever I did good. WOOF WOOF!!
The surprises would get me so excited and I wouldn't even eat the chocolate before I poped the yellow case that contained it. I had to know what's in there ASAP!
The Kinder egg was not cheap for us at the time. There were tons of cheaper chocolates and even some egg-copycats with inferior surprises. But the real thing was easy to spot: The colors, the shine, the black and white chocolate and the unique taste.
It was a very gift for almost every occasion. I used to bring it to my dates in high-school. Opening and assembling the surprise would get us started. It worked, I could say :)
Of course, I collected and traded surprises. Over the years, I must have amassed over 100. I want to share with you some of those that I still have. Thanks to my parents that NEVER throw anything away, I managed to keep some in a "nostalgia box". Even looking at them today take me back to my childhood years.
So here it is! All the photos were taken by me today for your viewing pleasure.

For this article I decided to go and buy an egg to show you how a surprise looks right out of the egg. Now, one of the reason I am not overly excited about surprises anymore is that they simply got shittier. The intricate and complicated toys are all but gone. It's like they decided that kids just don't have any patience anymore for this kind of thing. I dunno, I think it was always fun and I enjoyed the challenge of putting it together but who knows....
Anyway, I went out and bought one and the weirdest thing happen. Guess what I GOT?!?!

I'm sure you might have guessed by now..

Is this a sign that I will be a whale? NAAAAAH
Is this a sign that a whale will upvote this post? Who knows?! ( @blocktrades, it does look like you! )
This concludes this post and I hope you enjoyed it and please share your Kinder stories! Also, if you live in a country that has Kinder Eggs GO BUY ONE and take a photo with the surprise. Let's see what you get!
PS: Another creepy one for the road?

I got this kinder whale last year :)

ha!!! this is much better than my whale!! very cool
If the company sees your post they could promote it with serious bucks!!!
So bring it to their attention some how and let them know about their opportunity! Someone should explain them how effective it would be to have a promotion post like this for ever on the blockchain and on top of the platforms all-time (I know we don't have it yet) trending page... Wouldn't that not be a great PR move for any company !!!
Haha. That would be cool!
It certainly can be great PR!!
Got it! An Elephant drawingboard thing. =D
:))) i'm dying :D great !!!!
It was fun unpacking, tasted the same. Only inner egg has got the lid joined. Can not popshoot it anymore, hahaha.
Ha ha ha
This post sure funny. Love the Donkey ❤️✅🆙👍
As you know I'm from America and I'm so sad we didn't have these. That yellow part looks absolutely delicious! As an American the first thing I would have done was eat that tasty morsel! And I simply cannot believe you got a whale. And you kept all the toys they are much higher quality than my old Cracker Jack prizes
if you come to steemfest i'll bring you one! :D my treat!!
Yes!
The aunt bought me the first Kinder Surprise when I was 7 years old. There was a little train inside. 20 years have passed, and still remember it!
I absolutely love these....who doesn't right??
Also, this was hilarious:
"Oh well, I have eaten hundreds and never got even close to eating the plastic piece. But maybe Eastern European kids are smarter :))"
a little bragging :D
Cool post, I remember the joy of those. Popping the yellow 'egg', after the toy was assembled, the Chocolate eaten.
Think they still have those at the Cash register in some shops, will get me one. :-)
Like a kind of Euro pean Fortune Cookie.
haha. WELL SAID :D share your fortune!
=D
Thats so cool!!! But somehow i feel old :-(
Cachalote!!!! :-)
oh, i know. go get one and report back with the surprise! :D haha. i'll add this to the post.
The Kinder eggs are also excellent for drug smuggling. They are so popular for it that having them in possession while crossing some borders is an automatic inspection. Check out these links http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/kinder-surprise-drugs-courier-caught-11193132 "A drugs courier was caught trying to smuggle two Kinder Surprise eggs full of cocaine on a flight to a stag do in Spain" and https://mic.com/articles/145012/child-opens-kinder-surprise-egg-to-find-a-bag-of-crystal-meth#.mEQVlb40y "a 5-year-old in Limavady, Northern Ireland, opened a Kinder egg Sunday to find the biggest surprise of all: a bag of methamphetamine where the toy should've been". Cheers.
rip childhood :(
LOL! That's some pretty cool stuff you got. They have those in China at the import food store but I never bought them cuz I'm not into chocolate eggs, but I might buy a couple now just to see what's inside.
you totally should :D
nostalgi )))
Great Post! I had no idea they were banned! I think what I have been calling a kinder egg is not really a kinder egg... ha :)
why not?
I think I was calling the ones with some kind of cream filling in them kinder eggs... ha
Could you have been thinking of Cadbury eggs?
Ha... I am thinking so...
No way! I want those gnomes! My daughter got the airplane set. She said they were for a friend but they were eaten instead (the chocolate). ;) Fun, Raz!
:)) those creepy bastards are still around here...watching..waiting...muaahaha.
My 3 year old nephew loves watching youtube videos of kinder eggs being opened. It makes it super easy to babysit him. Just set up a play list of kinder egg videos for him to watch and wallah, no worries about him dangering around my non child proof home. I should add that I have watched some of those videos and they make it seem as though the eggs are made of magic. Too bad they are banned here because I would love to get some for him and me to open together.
wow. i can't believe that's a thing!
oh wait. I CAN believe that's a thing :D
i'll go watch some now :))
Trust me, the chocolate is really great too!
@razvanelulmarin It's cool you've managed to keep it all. The whale and the gnome bottle feeding the piglet are so cute. I checked @pharesim and @badassmother are the first two to vote I guess :p
hahah very cool! Nice collection! I used to be obsessed with them when i was young, I think we had half a room dedicated to the kinder toys :D
:))) wow! i was too but did not have enough..more like a shelf :D go buy one and let's see what you got
Lol, loving the kinder whales!! I loved them as a kid and my daughter loves them now!
you should love them now too
Haha, I totally do man!!! we fight over them!
It is a total pity! After seeing this I might have to make it my mission to lobby for the approval of Kinder eggs in the US :)
I love those! Makes me want to head out to the store to grab one right now! I used to get them all the time at easter.
My girlfriend introduced me to these only about a year ago. They are apparently illegal in the US or something so I had never had one. The chocolate is actually pretty good. Edit: Despite being illegal, I bought some in the US so not entirely sure what the deal with them is.
There's always the bag egg out there that ruined for everyone. It's hard to deny the fact we do see a safety issue with it but it's one of those things you should know how to eat what you're eating. For children, obviously parents should be paying attention to what their children eat.
