The 10 most famous paintings in the world - Number 5: The Gioconda

in #artzone6 years ago

Also known as La Mona Lisa, made by Leonardo Da Vinci, it undoubtedly wins the title of the most famous painting in the world. His mysterious smile is what intrigues millions of people; today it is known that the smile was painted with colors that are best appreciated with peripheral vision. The Mona Lisa is the most famous painting that exists. Hence, even if it had never been auctioned, if it were, it would probably reach the highest figure in the history of art. For this reason it is not surprising that Vincenzo Perrugia (Italian painter) stole the piece from the Louvre in 1911, although it appeared two years later in Italy. The painting was not only stolen, but also sprayed with acid and hit with a stone by a man in the Louvre itself. It is the most visited painting in the museum, with more than six million visitors a year.
