The last weeks have been very challenging for me and my meditations as the extreme deathly conditions continue in Australia with the fires there. I can not fathom the situation honestly, and have been very sad and crying, trying to keep it together for our little furry friends, plants, animals, humans. It is the largest fire in human recorded history!
A dear friend of mine that is a master seamstress and has a studio in her home, created a mission project on facebook in the last week to collect material and donations to sew 4,000 plus pouches for the marsupial babies there. Many of the parents are gone and to insure the survival of the species they need to live and grow in pouches. The pouches need a lining to be able to remove and wash daily.
First, she downloaded all the different size patterns and printed them. I've been cutting duplicates as many sewers are stepping up to join in.
Patterns for kangaroos, and bats etc.
We received many donations of soft cotton fabric so on to cutting till end of time! My friend set up a donation fund and in 2 days raised over $500.00! She went to Joann Fabrics (local fabric store) and people were literally in line handing her money and piles of fabric buying more fabric for her! Joann's even offered their giant sewing room to use that can fit almost 10 sewers! Facebook groups from California even donated!

I've been posting on as many platforms I can find. Neighbors are dropping off bags of flannel sheets, shirts, t-shirts clean towels etc. Anything that is soft natural materials will be used.

"I am sewing animal sacks for rescued animals through a world wide guild for Australia and need fabric to achieve my minimum goal of 1,000 sets or more.
Most of the animals that are orphaned, displaced or homeless are marsupials and the sacks are integral to their well being and safety. Some will be living and using them for months and possibly a year depending on the species.As you can see in the picture they are calmed in the wraps and sacks and do not have to be caged.
Everyone that has worked with me knows that I can frugally shop new and used materials and get great yields. I am very resourceful.
If requested after making your donation, I can post a picture of what was produced. Some of the sanctuaries will post pictures of the animals using the bags. This is not guaranteed. I would like to use the money raised to make the medium and large hanging bags that require a yard or more of fabric. I tend to produce in bulk so the end result is not immediate.
Please help me with a donation of fabric, money or time. This is a great time to learn how to sew. The patterns are simple and beginner friendly. I am a good teacher."
