Basically EVERY TIME I back up my passphrases, my Bitshares Wallet, etc. I can still hear my good friend @onceuponatime asking me, "Did you backup? Oh, that's good. How did you back up? Ok...where did you back up to?
@onceuponatime was ensuring that I was indeed backing up AND making a habit of it.
Because I travel a lot and because of the above picture making headline news, I now have to add ... Where is my backup?
The revelation that I had was, I was traveling with both my portable backup and my laptop in my carry-on. Any type of evacuation of an aircraft means...either you are not to take your carry-on with you, or you simply may not be able to get to it!
The picture on the right shows my new Seagate portable backup that I will now leave at home when I travel.
I hope that anyone that reads my post consciously makes a habit, like @onceuponatime taught me... of backing up.
Follow me ...
LOL - I was literally reading an article on the best backup methods right before coming across this post.
And I can commiserate regarding traveling with both my laptop and my backup drive: in 2010, my now-husband and I flew into Frankfurt and took the train to Krakow, Poland, where we were meeting up with his mother and sister, before driving back to Warszawa, where they lived.
Long story short, we arrived in Krakow to discover that my backpack was no longer traveling with us, which contained my laptop and drive, and literally everything I had written since getting my first laptop in 1997. Yikes!
Unbeknownst to us, the train was nicknamed the "Ghost Train," because of the frequency of such occurrences. But as I told Marek, I was confident I would get them back, complete with all my information, even though I had no idea how.
And, three months later, I did. My backpack - complete with ALL my possessions, not even missing a pen - was turned into the Krakow police, having been "found" on the same train on which we "lost" it three months earlier.
Ironically, the same day I got the email from the American Consulate in Krakow, informing me of my returned laptop, I had written a song all about releasing and letting go, and Marek and I both had the immediate and overwhelming feeling that the two were connected.
Not surprisingly, I refer to it as my "miracle" song.
Nice kitties, by the way! ;-)
Wow, that is an incredible story, thanks for sharing!!. So glad you were able to get everything back!! Truly amazing.
Thanks! Yeah, it truly was almost unbelievable.
When we got back, I shared my story of losing my backpack with a couple of women at our local Polish deli, and they shared their own stories of things they had lost on the Ghost Train.
Fast forward a few weeks, when I actually got my laptop back, and they were dumbfounded.
They had never even heard of anyone getting their possessions back once they disappeared on the ghost Train. A miracle indeed.
Yupp, myself I am way to sloppy on my backup's in life. I have it on the most crucial stuff (at least the most) but it is more of a when than if before something is lost in the turbulence of life. 🙏🏼
Will take action and make a backup of some computer stuff I've been putting off today ;)
Otherwise, if you're into travelling, vlogs, fitness, self-development etc feel free to check out my channel, in any case keep up the good work and I'll see you around! 😁
Great post! I've gotten lazy about it, since I'm stuck in one spot at the moment, but I got the dreaded "blue screen of death" a couple days ago as a reminder!
Backups are another reason I would like to upgrade my camera body, when I have income again. The 7D I currently shoot with has only one card slot. I've never had one of my personal cards go bad, but I have had it happen while shooting at a portrait studio. The bodies I've been looking at have dual card slots, so you can save duplicates.
I've actually seen several drives that can be configured like a personal "cloud." Have you tried using any of those? I'd be interested in your take on them.
Happy travels!
Lol, I bet everyone's eyes went big when they read that you had the "screen of death" (we've all been there)lol
No, I haven't used any kind of cloud. I hope your camera doesn't fail you because your photos rock!

That's a great moto, lol
Backup is very important, especially for people who travel a lot ,,, really backup keeps all personal data and work data, and it is best to do more than a backup of the most.
I support the saying @onceuponatime 😊
Because he is right, and Ari is a wonderful person, I benefited from that information ,,, I thank the dear friend @onceuponatime😉
I wish you my dear friend @steem-samiam 🌺 a happy life and pleasant travel.
Good luck my friend @steem-samiam👍
Backup is one of the most essential part of having cryptocurrencies.
There have been many news of early adopters who threw their laptops which is not worth in millions!!
Well said, it is very essential! I too have been on chat sites where someone's hard drive crashed and there was no backup or all the people that had a lot of bitcoin in 2009 and they don't know their passphrase, nor was there backup. Thanks for your comment.
I recommend saving your information and passwords in a safe place
Because evolution has become very large🤔
This is a big reminder for me. Its been on my to do list since a very long, need to buck up before it gets too late :)
Yes, I think we are all guilty of putting backups on the to-do list. Lol, I'll be telling myself to buck up when I need to backup lol. Thanks for your comment.
lol I have that friend in my head.
Thank you for sharing this information, that is very important, to support! Being cautious helps us to be calmer when traveling. I also love to travel, it's the best! Regards @steem-samiam
You are absolutely right I should also be doing this hell I have a 2TB external HD that I am not using and really yes I should be using it.
Thank you for giving me this important reminder very good post.

Thank you (and @onceuponatime also) for reminding me to back up! This is on my to-do list but I keep not doing it because it doesn't feel like a priority. I'll take this as a sign. "Back, back, back it up! "- The wise words of some rap song that I forgot all about
