Sardine Slaughter at Manzanillo Beach (eng/esp)

in #beach2 years ago

Greetings dear participants, in this new publication I want to show you, through the images, a day of joy with the blessing of God in Playa Manzanillo. I tell you that the main economic source of the inhabitants of this population is artisanal fishing, which allows this activity to be developed with traditional fishing techniques and few technological developments, this being favorable for the balance (production - marine ecosystem).

It should be noted that sardine fishing, in the state of Nueva Esparta, Isla de Margarita, has been carried out by hand for 93 years; when the purse seine or sardine train was introduced for the first time in the town of Pampatar. Being an activity carried out by several boats of boats, peñeros, sardineros, with a fishing art, called chinchorro or sardinero train, made up of pieces of net (cloths) that range from 20 to 70 m in length and from 12 to 18 m high that does not have a closing mechanism at the bottom, and which is operated by 15 to 30 fishermen. In this sense, it can be said that it is a fishing gear that does not harm the coastal marine ecosystem, as it does not damage the seabed. Therefore, by having the school or school of sardines located approximately 3 miles from the coast, these boats surround them with the dinghy or sardine train, forming a fence, to take it as close as possible to the shore on the beach. After this, completely close the fence. Immediately afterwards, it is carried out with baskets, the sardines to the shore for their commercialization. This activity requires a lot of labor, which involves technicians, fish farmers, sailors, fishermen, basket loaders, merchants, carriers, among others. At the same time, it allows generating sources of work and therefore, income for the residents and all those involved, generating a positive impact in the area.

Finally, I want to highlight the name of these artisanal fishermen from the town of Manzanillo, who selflessly give part of the fruit of their work (sardines) to people who need it.
