This is my entry for #beautifulsunday created by @ace108. The curfew in Thailand has been lifted a few days ago. So, all the long distant buses and night trains have started running as normal. I was so glad that I could travel by night train to the north-east of the country to do some work on the garden and cuddle my cats. I took a bus to the nearest bus stop to the railway station; it took me less than ten minutes to reach the ticket office. On my way back to the bus stop, I decided to take a walk along the old canal to see the old trees around the area.
This old canal used to be very important some fifty years ago as it was the main canal that passed several markets and important landmarks in Bangkok. The water used to be very clear and cleaned; people used to find fish for their daily meals and children would be jumping into the river from various piers. But nowadays the water is dirty and polluted. All the trees have grown very big since my childhood days.
ตอนนี้เขายกเลิกเคอร์ฟิวแล้วหลายวัน เราจึงดีใจมากเพราะชีวิตจะได้เป็นปกติมากขึ้น รถไฟและรถบัสสามารถวิ่งได้ปกติแล้ว ทำให้เราสามารถไปจองตั๋วรถไฟเพื่อเดินทางไปเยี่ยมบ้านและแมวที่ต่างจังหวัดได้แล้ว เราจึงไปสถานีรถไฟหัวลำโพงเพื่อจองตั๋วล่วงหน้า ตอนขากลับเราไปเดินเล่นตามคลองผดุงกรุงเกษม ซึ่งเป็นคลองที่มีความสำคัญมาก ในการขนส่งสินค้าทางเรือเข้ามาตามตลาดหลักๆในกรุงเทพฯ และเป็นคลองที่เชื่อมต่อสถานที่สำคัญหลายแห่งในเมืองหลวง
To my surprise, I saw something moving in the deep green water. I followed the trail to find out that two monitor lizards were swimming happily in the canal! This was new to me! So, these creatures have been colonising all the canals in Bangkok.
I remembered those old houses from my kindergarten days. There were people living in those houses which also operated as warehouses; many children running around those houses. Now they were all abandoned to the overgrown Banyan and Pho trees. How time and nature can change everything. I wondered where those small children were lining and doing. I often wished we could have become friends one day; so I could go and play at their houses by the beautiful canal.
บ้านเก่าๆริมคลองทรุดโทรมมาก ไม่มีคนอยู่แล้ว สมัยเราเด็กๆเคยนั่งรถผ่านไปโรงเรียนประจำ เราเคยเห็นคนอยู่เต็มบ้าน มีเด็กๆวิ่งเล่นหน้าบ้าน และกระโดดเล่นนํ้ากันสนุกมาก เราเคยคืดว่าเราเป็นเพื่อนกับพวกเขา เรารงได้ไปเล่นที่นั่นด้วย วันนี้ทุกอย่างเปลี่ยนแปลงไปจนน่าใจหาย เวลาและธรนมชาติเปลี่ยนทุกอย่างจนเราจำไม่ได้เลย เราเดินไปด้วยความสงบและตระหนักว่าอนาคตเป็นสิ่งที่ไม่แน่นอน เราจึงต้องใช้ชีวิตอย่างมีสติให้มากที่สุดทุกวัน

I love the older parts of Bangkok, and the Canal culture - always feel like I am back in Holland. It could be some parts of Chiang Mai, and I had to look twice. Love your last pic especially. x
Yep! The canals made all the difference! It’s rather sad people were nit aware of environmental impact and did not have a any ideas about recycling water. So, there was no planning about this aspect till sixty years later! But, one day nature will take back what’s once there! People will not last forever!
I have been feeling that I lost some portion of ‘time’ these last few days! It’s very weird! I didn’t know what I had been doing to be lost in time.
It's nice, green and peaceful here. I can imagine that it was even nicer when the water was still clear and unpolluted.
Yeah! It’s such a shame that progress in economic development had created lots of environmental impact and pollution!
I guess there's enough fish or other food to feed the monitor lizards.
Oh! Yeah, I saw two men with fishing rods!
