Not that long ago, a pretty large penalty was issued against META that made headlines all around the world.
The tech firm was fined for an outstanding amount of 1.2 billion € for violating the General Data Protection Regulation rules that basically states that some safeguards have to be in place whenever data is being transferred between EU and USA.
However, even though the penalty is huge, I do not think that we should be fooled too much because of it. A penalty of this size can prove to be pretty much insignificant for a company that makes a net profit of tens of billions of euros on a yearly basis.
And this is the problem of social media tycoons like META: Europe (and USA I guess) remains unable to police big tech's use of people's data.
This is a sickening verdict that we have to acknowledge and openly oppose.
How? By utilizing Ecency more and more!
With it's last update, the user interface has been further improved - and I for one am absolutely LOVING the changes!

To all of you lovely Ecency users I am wishing a very nice and productive Friday ahead of you - may the weekend be filled with joy for you all!
Ecency offers blog posting (long form blogging); this you already knew. Now Ecency offers its users microblogging (between 240 and 255 characters; I'm still trying to figure out the exact count). Ecency.Waves, the microblogging platform, will even let you post to other microblogging platforms such as D.Buzz and LeoThreads-- no one else does that.
The gaps in the social media experience are being filled by Hive, and Ecency is a big part of that. Hive offers video dApps, but nothing like the short video platforms we see in Web2. Although the user base is small now, it is growing by the day. It may never reach the numbers of the big players in Web2, but it doesn't have to; all it has to do is be excellent to the userbase it has.
