Marvelroast

in #beersaturday4 years ago

If you read yesterday’s post you’ll know I’ve been struggling to post. I woke up this morning and told myself I was going to get two days in a row. I read somewhere that you need to set small goals. This seems small, but somehow feels like a mountain as I sit here typing...

It might be because I have a crippling amount of work and the only appreciation I get is from my manager who has no real power to make any changes. Our director is so disconnect and their VP is even more disconnect from my perspective. The 3-4 person workload I carry is just getting to be too much. The only reason I keep going is because I like my coworkers. We all ha w been friend for 8 years, but a bunch of us have about had it.

Wow, I was not meaning to put all that down on paper, but damn that felt good. Fuck it, I’m leaving it in.

As for tonight’s beer it’s Marvelroast by Founders. It is an imperial golden ale with coffee, vanilla and cocoa nibs. Milk sugar was also added during the brewing process.

The appearance is clear and golden like a golden ale should be. It’s got a pretty small head and has a fair amount of carbonation streaming through.

The aroma is deceiving because it smells like a coffee stout. It’s got rich notes is fresh coffee and bitter espresso characteristics. There’s also a light sweetness that balances the more bitter notes.

The flavor is just as perplexing. It’s straight coffee which you don’t expect from a lighter colored beer. It’s rich with bitter espresso and light chocolate. You get a nice sweetness that combined with the coffee flavors makes me think of a sweet cold brew. It’s absolutely delicious.

The mouthfeel is light which is refreshing for coffee flavored beer. Stouts are heavy and filling were this is just refreshing. I love these lighter colored coffee beers. It’s an attack on the sense. This is a great example of fun brewing can be.

Good co-workers is always always tough, you don't want to leave because you feel like you will be letting them down, sounds like you need to start thinking exit strategy - obviously not the time to do anything drastic, but might be time to explore your options, and hopefully in a year or two you can be sitting in a pub with your ex co-workers shaking your head and wondering how you put up with all this shit.
