Six in the Morning 🦅 Hawk Flight (Video)

in #birds23 hours ago

They never hear me coming. The one wheel wonders that we ride are fast, silent and maintenance free. It is a bit of a curse on the streets of Buenos Aires because, unlike a Harley, they do not hear an engine and they cross the street while texting.

Back to the story of what goes on in Mar del Plata. I woke up at 6:00 a.m. and did not want to wake those that are working today. I snuck out and got to ride on the ancient polo field.

I ran into some hawks that nearly attacked me because they had a couple chicks in a hole off to the side of the play area (outside the boundaries). I avoided that corner of the field while recording this little movie.

These are big birds compared to the pigeons I had flown next to in the city. Their wing span is about a foot shy of my arm span. After being chased by the nesting hawks, I was a bit intimidated by them but I think the non-parent versions of the hawks are used to people playing high speed games in this particular back yard.

I am riding this all terrain vehicle while chasing them - please don't think that I am torturing them. They are vehemently chased by the families of their daily victims, birds that had their wife or brother eaten by them.

Many of the residents of this gated community have small dogs that they have to watch closely as well.

In the next six hours, there will be children with hammers (tacos) riding and smacking balls on this field, trying to make goals. I can't wait!
