I think the success rate for Dapps launched on the actual Steem blockchain is higher than the Dapps marketed on Steemit, but not built on the Steem blockchain.
Having said that, there is also a weariness of supporting Dapps that are only planning on using Steem for marketing purposes, and the community generally prefers Dapps built on the Steem blockchain, and ones that are built in a way that contributes to the Steem blockchain.
Personally, I don’t think blockchain technology will brought to mainstream media attention and use until a large company/network makes use of it. For example, if a brand like Twitter or Snapchat started to mess with blockchain technology on new features or apps all together then it would become mainstream and raise mass attention that would draw more people into it. BAT is going up against behemoths. Adoption takes time. Unification is a unique proposal in itself but even then adoption will be a process. The goal is to make it as easy to adopt as possible.
I agree but when looking at data almost every social media company and online entity is a player in the game. Is google going to play around if their value proposition of being a large data collector is threatened?

Perhaps at some point down the line, there'll be an opportunity for some form of integration or cross-utility.

IBM, Maersk, and NASDAQ are some examples.
