in #bitcoin5 years ago

Web Summit 2018’s attendees were in for a surprise this year when one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency wallets, Blockchain announced that it is airdropping $125 million worth of stellar lumens (XLM).

This was just one of the highlights of Europe’s largest tech event, as it brought together leaders of emerging tech in an action-packed four-day congregation which comprised of intense brainstorming over new ideas, motivational talks, immense networking opportunities, and even a shot at earning free crypto.

The 2018 Web Summit conference held in Lisbon, Portugal, was attended by more than 69,000 people from 159 countries making it one of the most statistically impressive conferences in recent times.

The event witnessed more than 1,200 speakers, 1,800 start-ups, 1,500 tech investors, and 2,600 media personnel in attendance, making it one of the largest gatherings of crypto enthusiasts from the world over. Consequently, the conference also proved to be an excellent platform for technology companies to share their vision and ideas with a large audience.

Blockchain Wallet Announces $125 Million XLM Airdrop
One of the oldest and most trusted cryptocurrency wallets, Blockchain announced at the Web Summit its partnership with the Stellar Development Foundation to airdrop $125 million worth of XLM tokens.

People who sign up to the wait-list will be rewarded $25 worth of stellar lumens. Existing Blockchain wallet users are eligible for the airdrop, as the first batch of recipients is expected to receive their XLM later this week.

eToro Roll Out Their Cryptocurrency Wallet
Mirroring the crypto giveaway act of Blockchain was the global multi-asset investment platform eToro, as it announced the launch of its much-anticipated cryptocurrency wallet. The initial version of the wallet will allow users to store the top cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), bitcoin cash (BCH), and litecoin (LTC).

eToro also stated that the wallet will soon be equipped with a slew of extra features, including more crypto tokens, fiat currencies, crypto-to-crypto conversion options, ability to withdraw and deposit fiat currencies, and more.

In an attempt to push for crypto adoption, the first 100,000 people to download the new eToro crypto wallet will be eligible to receive 0.1 ETH for free. Today, 0.1 ether roughly trades at $21.

BTC.com Bitcoin Cash Card Giveaway
Digital currency platform BTC.com also joined in the movement. This was evident by their crypto card giveaway which contained free BCH worth $2. People who visited their stand and downloaded the wallet received cards containing 0.0030 BCH.

BTC.com set up their stand with an aim to inculcate knowledge about cryptocurrencies among the masses. Beginners in the field could visit their stand and learn how to create a crypto wallet, and play quizzes.

Bitstamp Separating Truth from Myths
At the event, Luxembourg-based cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp launched a quiz named #cryptomyths to help people separate facts from the froth of misconceptions and myths in the industry. The exchange also offered valuable insight with regard to cryptocurrency trade. Individuals were rewarded with $10 bonus after completing their first trade on Bitstamp.

Although the naysayers will term these pro-crypto initiatives “marketing ploys” at best, they will no doubt help raise awareness about digital currencies en masse.
