Just eight men own the same wealth as the 3.6 billion people who make up the poorest half of humanity.
One of the reasons I love crypto is that it has the potential to change the world for the better. What better way to change the world than to improve equality thus helping the worlds poorest.
One of the main causes of poverty is lack of basic services like electricity. It is estimated 1.2 billion people don't have access to reliable electricity.
There are already coins like Solar coin and Sun contract which aim to reward and promote Solar electricity generation. With coins like these rural villages could build community solar projects and earn an income via the blockchain.
Power ledger is a company building a decentralized solar platform for peer to peer trading. This would enable the villages to form a micro-grid and buy and sell their electricity as needed.
So lets say a village in rural India has no access to the national grid. The village has several rooftop solar installations that once connected form a micro grid. Other houses connect up and soon everyone in the village has access to electricity which can be bought and sold on the blockchain.
Soon the village has excess power generation and gets connected to the nearest village that has no grid access. Now they are exporting electricity to help their neighbors. They pool the profits to improve communal facilities like a new school and installing water pumps and filters for clean drinking water.
So now the village has a new source of income from electricity generation. The children can go to school and learn about the blockchain and everyone has clean water to drink!
This could easily repeat across entire continents bringing hundreds of millions of people out of poverty and into the blockchain era!!
