To get Bitshares with open.STEEM which is the same as STEEM on the Bitshares decentralized exchange.
Download the Bitshares2.0 client and setup an account.
Go to Deposti/withdraw and choose openledger as your gateway.
Select STEEM as the asset you would like to deposit.

Great post !
open.STEEM is not a derivative, it is the same as steem on poloniex only it is secured by openledger (IOU).
bitSTEEM (like bitGOLD) is a derivative, if it doesn't exist yet, go ahead and create it on Bitshares :)
Convince them that it is in their interest to do so.
What is in the interest of the platform is also in their interest. They are paid in shares of this platform :D
Publishing a pricefeed that is available on the internet is not that hard for them.
In addition, not all witnesses are needed to produce a feed for it be valid, you can specify the minimum number of feeds you desire.

Have fun !
I also like using https://blocktrades.us/ bridge to turn steem/sbd directly into BTS since it is trustless, but OpenLedger is also cool.
Maybe I should try this route.
How do i deposit Bitshares from poloniex into Bitshares wallet. I have been looking at the wallet for weeks and can't figure it out.
Thanks for the screen shots. Instructions with screen shots are always better than without.
You go to poloniex and press withdraw. Then you enter the name of your account on bitshares (or name of whatever account you want to deposit to), because on bitshares your account name is also your BTS address.
For example, when I withdraw funds, I enter xnxt as my address, because it is my main account (and I've been buying and withdrawing a lot of BTS on Poloniex lately).
You just substitute your own account name. Then you enter how much you want to withdraw, then you click send. If you have 2fa enabled you'll have to enter the 2fa code (and you SHOULD have 2fa enabled), then maybe you have to confirm via the email link they send you. And bam in less then a minute you have your BTS in your Bitshares account (don't forget to back up your wallet, and the brainkey).
