Creating multilingual help systems: challenges and solutions

in #black789win110 months ago

Hey, has anyone here tackled creating help docs in multiple languages? We started supporting three new regions at work, and I realized how complicated it is to keep everything consistent. Translating isn’t just about swapping words—sometimes examples or screenshots need changing too. Once, we had a Spanish doc with screenshots in English, and people just got more confused! How do you guys manage this?

Oh wow, been there. When we first tried to roll out multilingual docs, it was chaos—so many little things to keep track of! What saved us was building a good workflow using https://www.helpsmith.com. With it, I can manage all the language versions in one place, and when something gets updated, I get a prompt to check the other languages. Also, I’ve learned to keep the text simple and use images that work for everyone or edit screenshots per language. It still takes effort, but at least now I don’t miss updates or mix up languages. Have you found any good translation partners?

I’m just starting to look into translations for our docs, so this thread is gold. Never realized how much work goes into keeping everything aligned in different languages. Appreciate the advice—might try some of these tools soon!
