Powering Up Our Hive

in #blockchain4 years ago (edited)

Over the past week BEN onboarded two new university students onto Hive:

@guzmassadoption and @thecryptogal

There would've been more but our students have actually encountered the Hive signup process to be very difficult. Having to select a node, having to pick a signup option, dealing with multiple keys, etc.

In the near future we hope to add a Hive lesson to the BEN Resources page. For now we will be walking our students through the process manually.

The students who were able to sign up this week should be posting their introductory posts soon so you can learn more about them! Some have also graciously offered to post about their feedback regarding the sign up process.

To prepare for more student posts, we've powered up the rest of of our Hive thanks to the suggestion of @steevc!

It's not much, but we are just getting started.

Can’t wait to crank out a few articles and interact with the Hive community!

As mentioned before, the signup process was a bit of a hassle - but we made it 😅

Looking forward to your posts explaining the issues you ran into. We'll help to get it in front of the Hive developers so they know how to make the signup process easier.

I have now delegated to you so your vote has a little more power. I have lots of account creation 'tokens' stored up and am happy to use them to create accounts for your students. I would recommend they use PeakD and Hive Keychain. That makes key management relatively simple.

Good luck.

Thank you so much. We used PeakD and Hive Keychain itself but we thought that the default Hive website would have been the simplest. We'll recommend students use those instead.

With each new student that goes through the signup process we'll be collecting feedback and hopefully encapsulating into a guide.

Keys management is not going to be easy unless one trusts someone to manage keys for them. Recently, I believe that the most user-friendly way to create a new account is via https://hiveonboard.com

There is some basic information about the keys there. Also you can check a few posts such as https://peakd.com/hive-181335/@hivepeople/zpkknkag and https://peakd.com/onboarding/@stellabelle/get-your-free-hive-account

It looks like a straightforward way to create a new account unless you want to create one with your own RC. Other account creation providers are listed at https://signup.hive.io. Those pages may give your students some overview until you can come up with your materials.

Thanks @espoem we'll add those to our Resources page. It's definitely a balance between letting users keep ownership of their own keys while making the signup process as easy as possible.

Try hiveonboard.com it takes away the mess of dealing with rc and just let's people get started. Keys are always going to be a learning curve but with hive keychain it can be done once and good to go then.

Thanks for the recommendation @niallon11 we will try that!
