I don't really understand what the top players are trying to achieve. With this new fork, even less people will join and stay. The user retention was already so low... it feels to me like Steem is condemned to be a niche forever, like a private club of friends where outsiders aren't welcome.
Even those of us who have been here for two years are losing faith in this system.
I thought the idea was to make more people join, not the opposite. Oh well...
I don't know what they have in mind as I've never been consulted but I know I can't change anything, so I have two choices. One, go on and try to find a way that suits me. Two, quit.
That's true... but in the same way, if the incentives for posting are reduced, the whales cannot blame people if the quality of their posts drop, as well. Right?
I can only speak for myself but if I can't post a quality post, I'd rather don't post. I won't post shit just because the payout method is changed.
Of course quality is debatable, one may say it's quality, others may have a different opinion.
I still hope people are not going to post lower quality posts.
And I think that's inevitable.
I also don't like to shitpost, but I'm no longer motivated to make big posts like this: https://busy.org/@trincowski/graffiti-in-munich-5-abandoned-construction-site-a-place-with-a-thousand-graffiti-033243f45520best
I understand that but still. We have to try. You can get all kinds of curation and grow.
Let's see what happens but this change isn't convincing me, not even a bit. So much that, even with Steem at new lows, I am not buying anymore. I'd rather invest in other projects, as I have more faith in those.
I agree. I have been here for over two years and been though all the HF in the meantime.
But this one kicks the little users in the ass like no other HF!
Not only the reward changed, but also posts that do not meet the 20 Steem threshold will be penalized for small earnings and earn even less. While all the posts that are above (which means whales, their buddies and upvote bot users) will be rewarded with a bonus and earn even more.
@erikah: "Why are whales obligated to help you?"
They are not obligated I guess. But we are all in the same boat and making it harder to new and small users while filling up pockets of the trending page, bid bot owners and their users is not quite nice, is it?
The gap is getting bigger and bigger. Rich get richer and poor get poorer.
Why punishing those who already make little on their posts?
The only reason I see is if the whales are trying to kick out everyone who doesn't buy any STEEM, turning this into a Pay to Post Scheme. 😣
At this point it wouldn't surprise me.
You have misunderstood me. When I said the whales are not obligated to help that user I meant one individual as many think just because they are having difficulties, whales have to help.
Whales of course have an obligation, not towards one user, but towards the Steem ecosystem and all users.
I wasn't talking about any articular user. But the whole lot of plankton, minnows and dolphins at this point too.
How is the significant drop in earnings supposed to help them? Aren't they all part of the ecosystem?
That is not entirely true. Let's not forget that curation has doubled and tribes are also here.
How is that not true? The drop in author rewards are not true?
If a user used to get $1 on his posts, now he will get maybe $0.70, because of the reward curve.
At the post payout it will be only 50% of that 0.70 what he will receive.
The curation will not cover the losses, especially for new account that hardly have any SP. His earnings come from posting, not curation.
The big stake holder will be gaining on the curation the most. And the big accounts (and popular people) will be able to reach the 20 steem threshold for post payout where they will be rewarded extra for. Where small payouts are penalized with.
Ok, looks like this conversation took a totally different root from what I was trying to say in my post.
When I said it's not totally true I was referring to the fact that curation has doubled as you get 50/50 now. You can earn on curation as well even though many are neglecting it.
I know I can earn on curation. I have been doing that. But that double up in curation does not cover the loss of post payouts. Small minnow and plankton accounts will not earn much on their curation anyway. Their main income was Author rewards.
