How's That Philippine Stock Investing Going?

in #blog17 hours ago

I'm at a point where I get enough small talks from people just curious how I'm doing with all my talks about investing, retirement, and being financially literate.

So for the interest of time, I just share this screenshot to flex how I'm down around 913 US Dollars and get 289 US Dollars from dividends estimated per year. These are paper gains/losses.

For more context, I tend to swing trade or position trade whenever it suits me at the time. I managed to rack up 680 US dollars in realized gains so the total return shown in the image isn't accurate. But I still lost money on paper anyway.

I realized it's much easier to just show the opposite of the benefits of the silent grind than showcase the small wins. When acquaintances or brownnosers see this screenshot, they'll assume that I'm not doing any better despite all that talk about financial literacy.

What I did learn from trading for kicks and giggles over the past year is that if I allocated more time to this, I'd get better results. But alas, I got a day job that keeps me from focusing on this "hobby". I could have just put the money on some mutual funds and let someone else handle it but you know what? meh, I think I could do better.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still paying for the tuition of doing early bad trades when I started out but the rate I'm catching up with good trades off sets the initial losses.

Macro news on the Philippines is bad. It's bear market territory and all the more reason I'm in touch with the news as these are times when riches are being made.

Thanks for your time.

Come to the darkside, we have dividends! xD

Ah dividends, I have yet to full commit to whether I want them or prefer capital appreciation as they have their own charm. A stock having dividends is one of the criteria for me to consider trading because other dividend chasers would want it and I want liquidity off them when taking profits.

Ah, thats smart to some extent! :D

But I just hodl and never sell as long as the stock gives me dividends xD

Testing if I can do this :D
