Strive for Quiet and Boring

in #blog5 months ago

Good systems in place makes things look uneventful and that's how it should be. There was a phase when I thought why the problematic events in my life started occurring less. They still do but less in frequency and the timing coincided around 5 years ago when I took money matters more seriously.

You know those lessons about how to do personal finance right and investing? turns out that following through the lessons build up habits that actually pay off.

It's not a flex that I don't get bothered by rent, no pressing bills to pay, no crippling debt, and financial emergencies pop up manageable. This is just a product of financial discipline done for years.

It's boring because it's not a lesson that you can casually share during friendly chatter. The topics are often about travel, bills, gossip, and goals to be done if one had more money. I couldn't contribute to the talks since most of those interests have little to do with my personal systems in life.

Living below my means, don't announce you have money saved or how much you earn, dress down, don't get involved with FOMO, don't get into debt unless you had to, don't delude the self about luxury being a necessity, and always think long term impacts about small decisions.

These small decisions add up and pay off.

Bad systems create turbulent times. Imagine constantly having to juggle with major problems of the week/month which most of the time could have been avoided. I bring up personal finance because most of the time, people have money problems due to personal mismanagement. If your micro decisions have you fulfill immediate gratification more, don't expect any lasting impacts long term. It's like eating the seeds than planting a tree.

I'm working on something called 'trying to reduce visibility' to my immediate social circle and only being available to those that care about my time as I care for theirs. You know relatives and friends that bug you out of the blue asking for money cause somehow they perceive you're doing well in life? They can sometimes guilt trip their urgency to pass it on to you like it's your problem now.

By reducing visibility, you lessen the chances of those instances happening. That's not to say I don't want to care, I do care but then I want to sleep better at night.

Thanks for your time.

that's a great idea.

UNFRIEND NA! HAHAHAHA

HAHAH sana di naman ako makasama dun sa mga ma unfriend 😁

I learned there's a good debt too and keep our cashflow/emergency money ready. Basically, you need to have enough collateral at the bank that they can give you any money at any point in time. A lot of business owners do this but for personal finance, this isn't advisable 😂 especially when it's to fund lifestyle.

I had it happen to me a few days ago. I haven't talked to my one of my brothers for years and the moment he has my number, he asked to borrow some cash 🙃.

If it's a family business, you can fund a "strategic meeting" during holidays using company funds and have it taxed as company expenses. There has to be documentation that parties involved were part of the business.

Gotta respect his effort for trying though, he wouldn't know it's a no until he asks~ but this is exactly why I like to be unreachable for most people. I don't hate making friends, I just don't like the relationship to be one sided benefit.
