Mullumbimby and the importance of Boredom

Hello Steemit friends,

There's a magical place in the hinterlands of the Byron Bay Shire that really holds a place in my heart, Mullumbimby or "Mullum", as many of the locals call it. It was the alternative lifestyle retreat for people who fled north from Sydney in the 1960s and 1970s and still remains a magical place full of community living and natural hotspots.
We were fortunate enough to house sit for a friend and it brought about a sense of freedom not only through nature and getting away from the city... But you find yourself at peace through boredom! Boredom is such a fantastic asset that I think we all shy away from far too often. Everyone tries to fill their days with activities, friends, work because the idea of loneliness and boredom is frightening. For me, to overcome the initial feeling of boredom is the hardest but what comes after (when you break on through to the other side) is creativity, innovation, and absolute peace. I have some of my most profound ideas when I'm bored and I really dedicate days (even weeks) to feeling bored. Then after I feel content with what has stewed up inside my brain I move forth and bring these ideas to fruition in my waking life. A good balance of both is needed, or at least for me anyway.
To quote a MGMT song "It's difficult to win unless you're bored".

Here are some photos of our magical getaway.
