The Thrill & Excitement of Starting a Business

It’s official. I have incorporated a software & blockchain development company with my partners @jaegar and @coca861.

With this new company comes our first product, PixelProperty.io (@PixelProperty)! I’ll do another post shortly going into more depth about our product (we’re just finalizing some things before we start marketing), however today I want to do a more personal blog talking about the extra roles I’ve taken on going through this adventure, what I've learned, and where my future is now heading.

Before I start, lets go into an overview about our new company, and then we'll dive into the rest.

Our Vision

PixelProperty.png

Our vision with our company & @pixelproperty is to bring real world representation and purpose to our blockchain assets. Our Smart Contract in @pixelproperty has two underlying tokens, one of which is a cryptocollectable known as Digital Property. These Digital Properties are our primary blockchain asset intend on giving real visual representations to.

We plan on accomplishing this vision by creating various products & services surrounding these Tokens. The first and primary product for our ecosystem is @pixelproperty, The Evolving Blockchain Canvas. Afterwards, our next planned service is to build a live updating billboard to showcase The Evolving Blockchain Canvas.

The @pixelproperty service and physical live billboard will be the first of many steps in bringing a real world representation to digital blockchain properties.

Preparing For The Journey

Originally, our company was not planned to be a full blown corporation. We were developing this product in mind to be either a hobby project, or one we started a simple partnership over. The project was also planned to be released a couple weeks ago, however that was under the assumption that we were not incorporating. Choosing to incorporate was our team making the decision to take on something bigger than anticipated. As such, more time was required to prepare and organize our new company.

Our team consists of simply us three members, as well as some minimal external aide where required. All three of us are software developers by trade with varying specialties under our belts. Two of, myself and @jaegar, are undergoing year long research projects on blockchain technology as our final task to graduate University. The three of us ended up being properly prepared for the technical tasks of creating an Ethereum Smart Contract, despite the large learning curve, as well as were capable of overcoming all technical hurdles we ran into long the way.

Where our team was underprepared for was the non-technical world, which we felt we could learn as we go. These tasks included graphic design, marketing, organizing a corporation, organizing multiple social media accounts, iterating multiple revisions of our white paper, among others. These tasks were not difficult per-se, however certain roles required a fair amount of learning before being able to fully dive into the roles with confidence. Trying to learn all these tasks, while also completing the technical side of the product and maintaining the rest of our life proved to be a challenge. We’ve worked countless nights to get to the point where we are.

Personal Role

My role on our team was originally being the Ethereum Solidity developer (alongside @jaegar), however that role shifted heavily upon agreeing to incorporate. Since then, my role (while including upgrading and testing the smart contract as we go) has morphed into a more business role. I created the logo and banner designs for our product based off of our website design, am planning the marketing campaign, creating/organizing the social media accounts and co-authored each revision of the white paper alongside @jaegar.

Trying to juggle all these tasks has proven to be very difficult. As stated above, I’m undergoing a research project that I blog about frequently here on Steemit, which has sadly had to slow down heavily. This product takes priority over that research project, however I’m done my best to find time here and there to keep it moving forward. As a student I also have a couple other courses outside of my research project I must complete, which have been difficult to juggle effectively. Thankfully, those classes will be coming to an end shortly, fully freeing my schedule to split between my projects.

Despite the difficulty with time management, we have successfully pushed the product forward at a pace I am personally happy with. Our product is awesome and will be officially announced here on Steemit very shortly, which is exciting in itself!

The Future

Right now, the future looks exciting, but intimating. The night we officially became a company, I remember laying in bed, wide awake, with this intense feeling of passion flowing through me. My mind was racing, like it was finally setting in “This is real”. The future is exciting and intimidating, but mostly exciting.

Short term, my future looks like I will be charging with @pixelproperty into the unknown. For us, success is defined as having adequate funding to pursue stage two of our vision, the live updating billboard. Assuming we succeed, @pixelproperty and the products which follow it will be my primary focus.

Long term, even if the product isn’t a success by our personal requirements, there are alternative products and services we could create to accomplish our vision which are cheaper to fund. Therefore, we still plan on pushing our product and company forward, regardless of the outcome of our first product.

Personally, I think our product will succeed. I do have a positivity bias, however I genuinely think our product satisfies a fantastic use case which I would want created as a user. As the bias developer, I love how we structured it, I think our design is genius (and it better be, we iterated on it multiple times till we came to an economy model we felt was just right). I’m confident in my future and the future of @pixelproperty.

As for the future of the Seed project, my blockchain research project, I do genuinely plan to continue it and push it through till completion. I have also thought of some cools ways where integration could happen beautifully between @pixelproperty and Seed, so I fully intend to make them both succeed.
