INTERNAL SCREAMING

INTERNAL SCREAMING.png

I have been struggling with shoulder and back pain for some time, so yesterday I finally decided, "enough is enough," and took the time to drive into town for a massage. Nowadays, the stress of dealing with the increased urban traffic almost negates the benefit of massage therapy, but need was becoming dire.

The massage was less than relaxing due to the deep tissue pressure applied to tense muscles. I drank a lot of water to help re-hydrate afterward. Assertions it helps flush out lactic acid or other "toxins" released by massage appear to be unfounded, but it seems to help recovery nonetheless. I also took a hot shower after I got home.

Unfortunately, recovery from such long-term tension is not immediate, and today's shift at the library was complicated by constant soreness. My internal voice was fluctuating between moan and howl the whole time, but I think I managed to keep myself mostly calm and collected on the outside. I definitely felt myself struggling to focus, though, especially when there was a lot of auditory input and new problems to solve.

And there were plenty of problems. Today has been one of those days.

On top of waking up sore everywhere, there were sounds of power tools. Then my rig wouldn't start, because something drained the battery overnight. I was breaking in a new pair of boots, so my feet were unhappy. We're also training a new librarian, so there were lots of questions about basic library stuff, but on top of that, there were oddities cropping up with unusual frequency in our computer system.

I do have some good news amidst the gloom, though. While in town for that massage and those much-needed new boots, I also stopped in at the local game shop to trade in a foil full-art land card from Magic: The Gathering that I've had in my collection for a few years. Store credit means more Magic card packs, and I'll be opening them in the near future. Should I make one big post, or bait the folks using auto-voting with a new post per pack every few days?

I love that you ended your post of internal angst on a high note, that made me smile.

I am sorry that you have been going through it. For the past few days I have been in the same boat, barely repressed misery, so your tale of issue stacked woe really resonated.

That said, I always adore a good popping MTG packs post from you, so bring on the cardboard crack sharing!!

Also, I hope the worst of it abates a bit to at least a more endurable, I don't want to throw things a people, level really soon.

Yeah, I hate to just whinge and moan. Life isn't all bad despite the hurdles and pain along the way. I also don't want to sugar-coat things and pretend it's all hunky-dory either. Keep it real!

Hi Jacob

I'm so sorry you've been having a rough time. I hope that after today all the pain subsides. Massages are apparently meant to hurt if they're worth any good.

I vote for a post per pack as long as it's worth a post each, otherwise if it's easier for you, then lot them in together.

When I crack open a pack, I usually link to more information about each card and offer my spur-of-the-moment opinion on how I would use it. There is actual content, not just a quick snapshot of the card haul.

Well then there you go, I think each opening deserves it's own post 🙂

Drinking always helps. I don't know why but after I've been working on people, if they don't drink for whatever reason immediately or very soon after, if I've been doing a lot of work, they will usually get a headache. I also always recommend hot showers as soon as possible but they're less necessary, just helpful XD

Your poor internals D:

But yay for store credit and new boots and stuff :D

Hehehe. I was tempted to drink indeed, but I abstained.

Sound like my friend. He looks at me with this mischevious look after I finish working on him and is like "the whisky has ice in it?"

WATER.

XD
