A Day of Rest

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

I work hard most of the time and I am always working on several concurrent projects. Every now and then, my body says "slow down" and take a break. One of the things that I like to do for enjoyment is to read. I read a lot of books and I really like the feeling of calmness and serenity that it gives to my mind.

I read resource books for information that I need to help me master skills like knitting or photography. I am currently reading four different books on knitting with two more books on hold at the library, and one digital book on digital photography. Two of the knitting books are specifically on knitting socks, one digital book is on basic knitting skills, and the other knitting book is on knitting items for babies using only one skein of yarn.

Those are all resource books to help me improve my skills and learn about my crafts. When I really want to relax, however, I like to read what I call "fluff". It may be a sci-fy novel, a historical romance novel, or a murder mystery novel. I don't like heavy duty mayhem, and gruesome images but more of the detective type stories where you have to figure out "who did it".

So today, I am going to focus on relaxing my mind and body for a while because it is healthy. You can't go full steam ahead seven days a week without exhausting yourself. I plan to eat leftovers and salad today so that I don't have to cook a big meal.

I might even catch up on some of the TV shows that I recorded on my DVR to watch later. I rarely watch live TV except for the news channels because I am busy doing other things.

I hope that you take some time out today to rest, relax, reflect, meditate, pray, worship or whatever else that you do to center yourself.

Have a great day.
