On why I stopped drinking, and why I am so glad!

Why I stopped drinking and why I am glad that I did.

Twenty years ago I had a really bad chest infection and I had to go onto really strong antibiotics and couldn't drink alcohol at all while on these tablets. So I gave up drinking for a fortnight, as that was how long the course of antibiotics was.

Once the chest infection cleared up, I was feeling so much better and I realized that I felt better largely because I hadn't been drinking for two weeks. Now I was never a heavy drinker but I admit that I got sauced regularly as the weekend went by, like the bad girl I was; nonetheless, the difference in myself was palpable from not drinking and I was impressed and I resolved not to drink alcohol at all.

Soon after giving up alcohol I found that my skin was clearer, my hair was glossier and I felt brighter.   The other good thing, to my pleasant surprise, was that I now enjoyed social events even more and had even more fun without alcohol than I ever did with alcohol. In our society we have a drinking culture, and unfortunately most of us equate fun with alcohol and I realised that as a society we are brainwashed into thinking that you need a drink to celebrate or be social. You don't. Trust me. Social events are way better without alcohol, period.

Alcohol is a sloppy drug, it numbs you, makes you dopey, makes you floppy, why on earth would you want that?   I confess that I like having a clear head and I like being fully in control, it's way better trust me. And you never, ever have hang-overs!

This is why Jeff Berwick's recent video on why he gave up drinking was so good...I found out that Allen Carr wrote a book about quitting drinking too.

And it was interesting to note that Jeff drew some similar conclusions to alcohol that I did. And thanks to Jeff, I am now reading Allen Carr's Little Book of Quitting, to help me give up cigarettes, my final vice.   Honestly if I knew how hard it was to give up cigarettes I would never had started in the first place but I grew up in a family of smokers and so that's what I did. My mother has COPD and is on oxygen and if I knew that if I kept up smoking I would be on oxygen in time, too. I already had a gnarly smokers cough. I am realising that I simply have to change the way I think about cigarette's, like I did with alcohol...

 An ah-ha moment...for sure.

I rejoice in the fact that I will now conquer cigarette's! And to be honest, that extra cash from not buying cigarette's will be welcomed. I can't believe what a dumbass I have been all this time, totally duped by the cigarette industry. Well, no more!   I hope that you enjoyed my post!

Congrats! I just celebrated 7 years without alcohol last month. I am not an anti-alcohol warrior, I just know it's not good for me. It is a tool to cover up real issues, but doesn't solve them, rather adds to them.

You have hit the nail on the head. Alcohol only adds to your worries and ill-health.

Can not agree more! Its been a couple of months for me since I consciously gave up drinking.. To my astonishment, being sober is so much more realistic. Plus one just does not have to deal with the mess that is created afterwards (well in some cases) :D

Cheers!

For sure, I am so glad that those times are over. :)

Good on you mate! I never liked alcohol. I'm more of a herbalist!

Lols ;)
