Testing The New Chain

in #blog6 years ago

Just wanted to test the chain and see if it stays here or somehow ends up on the Steem chain as many of the posts in my feed there seems to be doing. I'm glad to see I can log in without needing to give third parties my active key as that was really bothering me. I felt a sense of urgency to figure this out earlier as I went to vote for someone I follow (Urasoul) and found that while the post was visible on Steemit, the ability to vote for it had been taken from me. It just spun and never credited. I finally did vote for it on SteemPeak (first time using that interface), and asked a few people how one uses the Hive. I have no need of a dictator who feels he can tell me what I can see and vote for.

While I doubt I will post much here (I wasn't much of a poster anymore on Steemit), I appreciate the efforts made by the community to band together to nullify what was happening. In the last several weeks, I have witnessed others who don't get along pull together, and that is a true demonstration of community.

I believe that Hive is positioned due to the situation to become what Steem never could. The largest names of crypto are talking about this battle, citing the history being made right now. It's up to all of us whether this gets squandered or gains a foothold as a top project or falls into the obscurity Steem had since the dump of crypto in the last cycle. For now, we have the publicity (that we never had) and good will.

There are many of you who gained my respect these last several weeks. People who I was in disagreement with (you wouldn't have known other than I wasn't voting for your witness or posts). Good chance I may still be in disagreement here once the dust settles as if I didn't find you likable or my brand of levelheaded before, I probably won't now. But, one doesn't need to like or agree with someone else to respect them, so I thank you for giving me the opportunity to respect you even if I don't like/agree with you.

I will do my part (however small that is) in helping make this chain a success. I had initially planned on writing a promo book for Steem and independently publishing it (I have a background in self publishing, having earned over 40k in royalties over the years), yet there was always something that felt wrong and couldn't feel honorable writing it. I'm hopeful in the coming weeks/months I will not feel that here and will feel compelled to write that book for here.

Blessings to you and yours.

Glad to see you in my #HIVE feed PracticalThought! WOOHOO!!

Thank you Lyndsay. Glad you are here and my first comment here. I knew I was coming, but was prompted to hurry by Mr. Sun deciding he gets to decide who I vote for or not. Will be waiting a day or two before checking to see if they have the wallet issues fixed so I can power up my liquid in my wallet (began powering down on Steem a few weeks ago once Justin announced he was going to destroy the chain).

I feel the same optimism now as I felt when I first joined Steemit.

If you use peakd.com, which is the same style frontend as steempeak (created by the same awesome folks) you can use the wallet right away! I logged in with "peaklock". It was very simple to set up, you just have to have your private posting key ready <3

PS I'm glad I was your first comment, that's awesome!

Thank you. I used it (steempeak)last night before being directed to Hive IO. I will need someone more educated to explain to me how the process works of inputting my active key without the owners of the peaklock actually seeing/recording the key. I assume that's the case, but never could understand the concept with Steemconnect so never used that.

The funny thing is if my meager holdings were stolen/destroyed, it wouldn't amount to much, just the principle of the matter, lol.

You could ask in their discord, they're a great team, always around to help answer questions and FAST replies.

...good to see you made it!

Hey, @practicalthought.

Long time no see. :)

Just at a glance, there are some good things going on here, and the not so good, similar to STEEM before Justin Sun. It is early days, though, and I guess a honeymoon period of some kind is in order (though some are already pushing that).

I think it was a given that some of the pre-Justin days would continue here as the power players from before are actually more powerful now that their stake power isn't diluted by Steemit and the others who made it onto their blacklist.

I could live for the most part with the system we had before. I can't say that's the case for the new normal under Justin, nor his statements on where Steem is headed (destroyed and merged into a Tron token). I guess part of what doesn't add up for me is why Justin even bought Steemit if his intentions were to destroy the chain it rested on and make it sit atop his. Would have made more sense just to pay developers to sit a new one on his.

Your guess is a good as mine. The problem is lack of information on this one beyond statements on other social media, and the conversations with Steemit Inc. (before the devs resigned), the witnesses and others that contradicted all of that.

After that, things went sideways, so who knows what his intent is now. So far, there's been no moves to removed downvoting or change the power down window, which is either by design, or because he simply doesn't have the know how or manpower to do it yet. Haven't been to github to see what they might be working on.

In the meantime, while I have access to both, I wouldn't mind be able to leverage them both to build stake. Between the two, I'm pretty close to 25,000 HP/SP, which I think is pretty cool. :) Especially either or both can hold or improve their value.
